PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between todd labod (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kerr comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Smash Your enemies - Hatebreed kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, todd labod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kerr tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but labod paws at him with a jab and circles away.

labod fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kerr, pushing him back against the cage.
Kerr stops a takedown attempt from labod.

Kerr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
labod stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and labod wants it to stay on the feet.

labod decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

labod stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kerr to get to his feet.
Kerr has his takedown stuffed

and labod counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by labod.

labod is fighting off a takedown attempt but Kerr is just too persistent for him and manages to trip labod to the mat. labod regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Kerr pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. labod is keeping the position for now.
labod looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kerr is one step ahead there.
Kerr wants to control from the top but labod keeps moving.
Kerr connects with a couple of short punches.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now labod is on top in guard.
labod tries to free his leg and advance position but Kerr is retaining full guard.

Kerr has his feet on labod's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Kerr fails with the takedown
and labod counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
todd labod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Kerr.

labod shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kerr looks gassed!

labod decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Nice defenses there by labod.
Kerr doesn't succeed with the takedown

and labod counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

labod is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
labod controlling the action here.
labod prevents Kerr from standing back up.
Kerr tries to get to full guard but labod has control of the leg.
Kerr pushes labod off looking to stand but labod dives back in and keeps control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
labod trying to control the action but Kerr is working from the bottom.
labod throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
labod takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and labod counters with a nice double leg into guard.
labod looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kerr working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from labod.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
labod postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kerr keeping moving, preventing labod from controlling successfully.

labod gets to his feet. Kerr looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Kerr tries for a takedown but labod circles away easily

and labod counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kerr won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

labod stands up and beckons Kerr to his feet.
Nice defenses there by labod.
labod looks to land a combination but Kerr avoids it well.
Matt Kerr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kerr cracks labod with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Kerr tries a head kick but it misses.
labod moves into range and connects with a jab.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

labod drives through and clinches with Kerr against the cage.
labod tries to score a body lock takedown but Kerr shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Kerr wants the takedown. labod is fighting it off but Kerr persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in labod's guard against the cage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kerr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in labod's guard.
labod is trying to control the position but Kerr postures up.
Kerr postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Kerr wants to control from the top but labod keeps moving.
Kerr with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kerr works over labod with some ground and pound from guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Kerr tries to keep at a distance but labod has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kerr has labod pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. labod manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
labod tries to stall but Kerr uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

labod pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kerr has his takedown stuffed

and labod counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kerr has a closed guard, preventing labod from standing up.

labod won't allow Kerr to get back to his feet.

Kerr is working an open guard so labod takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Kerr!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from labod - that will leave a mark!
Kerr misses with a takedown

and labod counters with a single leg into guard. Kerr didn't expect that.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Kerr scrambles and gets back to his feet.
labod fails to land with a series of punches.

and labod counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kerr won't be happy with that.

labod postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
labod could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kerr tries to buck labod off but labod is having none of it.

labod stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Kerr feints and as labod raises his hands in defense, Kerr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kerr scoring with some ground and pound.
Kerr has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

labod looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Kerr postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Kerr is working labod over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

labod looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

labod is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
labod wants to advance to full mount but Kerr doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
labod wants to control from the top but Kerr keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

todd labod overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kerr wants to stand but labod is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
labod lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
labod scores with a hook to the body. Kerr takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
labod tries to clinch there but Kerr circles away.

and labod counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kerr!

Kerr is squirming around, avoiding labod's attempts to control the action.

Kerr wants to control but labod is having none of it.

labod avoids the attempt from Kerr to control.
Kerr is desperately trying to improve his position but labod has a good base and remains in mount.
Kerr is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
labod tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

labod wants to control the pace but Kerr is squirming around nicely.

todd labod showed his dominance in that final round.
Well labod has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
