The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Closer.
Closer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Perez's waist but Perez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Closer off to one side.
Perez fails to land with a series of punches.

Closer shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Perez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Perez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Closer asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Perez trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

I looks like Closer might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Closer closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Perez did well to prevent Closer getting side control.
