Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Plude (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matt Machado struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Matt Machado looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Machado!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plude misses with a few strikes there.
Plude throws a right hand that Machado ducks under and follows up with a left that Machado also avoids with ease.
Plude tries to clinch but Machado is having none of it.
Nice takedown defense from Machado. No joy for Plude on that attempt.
Plude avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Plude tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Machado pushes Plude up against the cage in a clinch.
Machado wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Plude has him pressed against the cage.
Plude tries for a takedown. No joy.
Machado has had enough of the clinch but Plude keeps him there for the moment.

Plude shoots in but Machado avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Plude feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Machado bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Plude's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Plude is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Plude is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Plude fails with the takedown.
Plude shoots in but Machado avoids the takedown attempt easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Machado wants to break the clinch but can't.

Machado breaks the clinch.
Plude misses with a low kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Machado looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Machado lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Plude at a distance.
Machado is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Plude throws a head kick but Machado moves out of range.
Plude shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Machado as he avoids it easily.

Plude blocks a head kick by Machado.
Plude cracks the inside of Machado's front leg.
Plude feints and then cracks Machado's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Machado down.

and Machado counters with a good low kick that Plude was not able to check.

Plude's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Plude seems to be working for a kimura but Machado defends the submission attempt.

Plude tries to pass the half guard into mount. Machado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Plude content to control rather than advance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Plude is keen to just control but Machado is a slippery customer.
Machado is in trouble now - Plude has advanced to mount!

Plude goes for an armbar but Machado turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Machado.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Plude looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Machado passes into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Plude dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Machado lands with a thumping leg kick.
Machado tries to close the distance and clinch up but Plude swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Machado counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Plude throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machado's waist but Machado gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Plude off to one side.

and Machado makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Machado.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Plude misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Machado looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

It looks like Matt Machado has been cut.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Plude has control of Machado's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Machado regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Machado is still in real trouble! Can Plude finish him?
Plude cracks Machado with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Plude has hold of Machado's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Machado manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Plude is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Machado is surviving well by controlling Plude's body position as best he can.
