The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Groper throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Tiihonen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nice takedown defense from Groper. No joy for Tiihonen on that attempt.
Tiihonen shoots for a takedown but Groper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Groper misses with a few strikes there.

Groper throws a sloppy head kick and Tiihonen moves out of range easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tiihonen wants to control for a moment but Groper uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Tiihonen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Groper pulls his head out easily.

Groper stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Groper swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Tiihonen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gary Groper is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Groper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tiihonen.

Tiihonen paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Tiihonen scores with a one two! Groper had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Tiihonen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Groper's guard.
Groper is looking to stand up but Tiihonen isn't so interested in that idea.

Tiihonen drops back looking for a leg! Groper is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Groper manages to kick Tiihonen off! Tiihonen jumps back into Groper's guard.

Tiihonen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Groper has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tiihonen has managed to get both his arms back between Groper's legs - danger averted.
Groper looking for a sweep. Not yet Groper, not yet.

Groper is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tiihonen is controlling him.
Tiihonen wants to control from the top but Groper keeps moving.

Tiihonen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Tiihonen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Groper swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Tiihonen counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Tiihonen is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Groper defends it well.

Tiihonen wants to work for an arm triangle but Groper is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!

Groper goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Tiihonen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Tiihonen lands a with a good body shot.
Groper throws a right hand that Tiihonen ducks under and follows up with a left that Tiihonen also avoids with ease.
Tiihonen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Groper momentarily.
Tiihonen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Groper is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tiihonen is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Groper is in big trouble! Tiihonen is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Groper. Poor guy.
