PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kohici Ishigawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Canadian Assassin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishigawa comes into the arena with supermassive black hole blaring out of the sound system. The key to victory for Kohici Ishigawa has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kohici Ishigawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Canadian Assassin!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ishigawa misses with a double jab.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ishigawa looks to land a combination but Assassin avoids it well.
Kohici Ishigawa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ishigawa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Assassin circles away quickly and effectively.
Assassin shoots in for a takedown but Ishigawa shows good takedown defense.
Assassin shoots in looking for a takedown. Ishigawa tries to sprawl out of it but Assassin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ishigawa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ishigawa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Assassin circles away quickly and effectively.
Ishigawa lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Ishigawa stuffs the takedown attempt from Assassin. Assassin gets slowly back to his feet.
Kohici Ishigawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Canadian Assassin.

and Assassin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Assassin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Ishigawa looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Ishigawa looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Ishigawa!
Ishigawa wants to stand but Assassin has his arm trapped.

Assassin misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Assassin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ishigawa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Assassin manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Assassin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ishigawa pulls his head out easily.
Assassin is breathing heavily.

Assassin throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ishigawa thuds his shin into the meat of Assassin's side.
Assassin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ishigawa sprawls well. Ishigawa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Assassin gets slowly back to his feet.

Assassin ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Assassin shoots in for a double leg but Ishigawa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Ishigawa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A nice inside leg kick there by Ishigawa. That's going to slow Assassin down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kohici Ishigawa dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Assassin slips a jab and a cross from Ishigawa.

Assassin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Assassin thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ishigawa pushes Assassin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Assassin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Assassin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Assassin works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Assassin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ishigawa is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Canadian Assassin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Assassin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
