PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wayne Gretzky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Maximilian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gretzky comes to the cage accompanied by All shook up by Elvis Presley. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maximilian dodges the punch combination from Gretzky.
Maximilian pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gretzky is out of range and Maximilian settles back down.
Gretzky tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Maximilian paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Maximilian shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gretzky manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

That's time! Gretzky's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The is referee keeping an eye on Gretzky - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Maximilian is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gretzky is aware though and is defending well.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gretzky is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Maximilian is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Maximilian is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gretzky defends well.
Gretzky makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Gretzky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gretzky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Maximilian really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gretzky. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gretzky connects with a couple of short punches.

Maximilian escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gretzky gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gretzky's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Gretzky controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Maximilian throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Gretzky pushing down on Maximilian's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Gretzky is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Maximilian defends it well.

Gretzky looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Maximilian with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Maximilian working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gretzky doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gretzky manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Greg Maximilian showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Well Maximilian has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
