PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between small power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and quick star (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, small power!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, quick star!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
power thumps star with a low kick.
power feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to star's calf.
power stuffs the takedown.
power throws a right and a left that star avoids nicely.
power with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
power throws a leg kick but star sees it coming and checks it nicely.
power dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
star looks gassed!
Nice jab there from power.
power pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Some wild striking there from power.
power throws a wild body kick that star sees coming a mile off.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from star.
power fakes a jab and throws a low kick but star checks it well.

power shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
star tries to reverse the position but power maintains control.

A nice elbow there by power.
power working star over with strikes here.
power landing strikes from the mount.
power trying to control but he's not successful this time.
star is in all sorts of trouble here.

power is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. star can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
power wants to control the pace but star is squirming around nicely.
power throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

power looking to control but star is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
power misses with a head shot.
power landing punches.
star is squirming around, avoiding power's attempts to control the action.
Poor strikes thrown by power there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
star tries to hold on but power pushes him away.
star really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

power lands a heavy elbow.
power with shots to the head and body - star looks very uncomfortable down there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
power trying to control but he's not successful this time.
power lands with some vicious ground and pound - can star hang on?

power is working for a guillotine from mount but star frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
power thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
star manages to regain half guard. Good work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

power is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. star doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time power.
star wants to get back to his feet.
power thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing star to regain full guard.
star wants to sweep but no luck.
star keeping moving, preventing power from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

power swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
power shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
star fails in his attempt to clinch.
power thumps star with a low kick.

star shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
power is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
power tries to kick star off but star keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
star wants to control but power is keeping him busy.
power tries to get to full guard but star has control of the leg.

power wants to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
power trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
star stalling.
star looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts power, as that shot connected.
star tries to close the distance and clinch up but power swats him away and circles back towards the center.
star should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
A solid leg kick lands there for power.
star works over power's head and body with a nice combination.

star has taken the fight to the clinch.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as power takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

star's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
star shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts power as he jumps to the side.
power falls off balance throwing a combination
and star counters with a stiff right hand.
small power seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! star crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from power - the referee stops the clock and star gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says power. star manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
power throws a right and a left that both miss.
star tries to close the distance and clinch up but power swats him away and circles back towards the center.
star showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from power.

power tries to keep at a distance but star has taken the fight into the clinch.
power misses with a short punch on the inside.
power is trying to force a seperation but star has the dominant position.
power is looking to break free of the clinch but star has double underhooks.

power working hard to break the clinch.
star has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. power avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
power wants to get back to striking at distance but star won't allow it.
power tries for a takedown. No joy.
power wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

star has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics power uses from the top position.

power stands up from guard. Let's bang!

power gets caught flat footed, as star shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
star trying to control the position from guard on top but power is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
power is looking to stand up but star isn't so interested in that idea.
power wants to sweep here but star controlling him for the moment.

power wants to get back to his feet but star is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
star wants to control from the top but power keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
power blocks a jab.

star clinches up with power and pushes him back against the ropes.

power breaks from the clinch.
power shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

quick star showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

star stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and star wants it to stay on the feet.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as star checks a leg kick.
power throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

star closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming power to the mat! power manages to get full guard.
star seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
power wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and star is now in half guard.
power pushes star off looking to stand but star dives back in and keeps control.
power is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
star keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

power tries to regain full guard. Instead though, star has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
power is working to get back to half guard.
power tries to hold on but star postures up.
star sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

star is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But power has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from power!
power wants to get up but he can't break star's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
power wants to stand and escape but instead star has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
power is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and star dives into side control.
star lands an elbow.

power is looking for a sweep.

star wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by power, who protects the arm well.

star decides to stand back up.
star is looking to clinch.
star takes a kick to the side of the head.
star fails with the takedown.
power swinging wilding here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

star breaks from the clinch.
A slapping leg kick lands for power.
star looks for a takedown but power sprawls well.
power misses with a low kick as star jumps back.
star looks to land a right hand but power moved out of range.
power looks to land a combination but star avoids it well.
power is looking to chop away at star's legs.
power fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

power lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
