PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Volk Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bang Du (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Du is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Unholy Confession. Bang Du is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Volk Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Bang Du!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Du is looking to chop away at Khan's legs.
Du pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Khan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Du but Du pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Du misses with a head kick.

Khan gets the takedown into side control.
Du is trying to improve his position.
Du manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Du throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Khan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Du not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Khan is looking for a sweep. Du is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Du looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Du really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Khan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Khan gets back to full guard.
Du loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Du got a little sloppy there for a moment and Khan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Du has managed to get both his arms back between Khan's legs - danger averted.

Khan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Du gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Du accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Khan looking for a sweep. Not yet Khan, not yet.
Du in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Khan is on top in guard.

Khan is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Khan passes Du's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Du is looking for a sweep. Khan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Du is trying to control but can't.

Khan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Du is looking to improve his position.
Du throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Khan wants to pass the guard but Du is defending well.
Khan prevents Du from improving his position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Du throws an overhand right that lands on Khan's shoulder, as Khan tries to avoid the shot.

Du has Khan up against the cage in a clinch.
Du misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Khan.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Du tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Khan avoids it.
Khan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Du pulls his leg out and moves away.
Du wants to slow Khan down by chopping away at his legs.
Du motions for Khan to come forward. Du throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Khan misses with a leg kick
and Du counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Du throws a sloppy head kick and Khan moves out of range easily.
Du tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Khan lands with a cross.
Du throws a leg kick but Khan checks it.
Du throws a body kick that misses.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Khan.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Volk Khan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Du pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Du looks gassed!
Khan misses with a two punch combination.

Du gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Khan to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Khan works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Khan is looking for a kimura but Du is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Khan to get the leverage.
Du wants to get back to full guard but Khan has mounted him!
Du is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Khan has hold of Du's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Du manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Khan prevents Du from getting the reversal.
Khan fails to advance to Du's back.
Du is trying to escape the mount.
Du tries to hold on but Khan pushes him away.
Du tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Volk Khan dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Nice takedown defense from Du. No joy for Khan on that attempt.
Du tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Du tries a head kick but it misses.
Du throws a head kick but Khan moves out of range.
Du falls off balance throwing a combination

and Khan counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Khan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Du sees it coming and defends easily.
Khan looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Khan wants to work for an arm triangle but Du is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Khan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Khan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Du wants to control but Khan is keeping busy.

Khan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Du doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khan.

Khan is looking for a kimura here.
Du tries to get to full guard but Khan has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Khan not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Volk Khan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Du trying to control but Khan postures up.

Khan maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Du could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Khan has cracked it and Du is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Khan!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Volk Khan!
