Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gray Grantham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Green!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grantham tries to clinch but Green is having none of it.
Green tries to clinch up

and Grantham counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Grantham with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Green wants a takedown.
Grantham using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Green has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Green lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Green breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Green bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Green misses with the ground and pound.
Green throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Green is trying to get an arm triangle but Grantham is defending well.

Green swings around for an armbar but Grantham sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Green's guard.

Grantham drops back, looking for a kneebar! Green looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Green looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Green!

Green swings around for an armbar but Grantham sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Green's guard.
Grantham is looking to work some ground and pound but Green has wrist control.

Green escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grantham gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Green looks gassed!

Grantham is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Green is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Grantham sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Green's guard.

Grantham is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Green is just riding it out for now. Grantham eventually gives up the hold.

Grantham wants to work for an arm triangle but Green is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Green is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Grantham pulls his head out easily.

Grantham wants to pass to mount but Green is defending the position.

Grantham is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Green has managed to free his arm - good work.
Grantham is looking to stall here but Green recovers full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Green has an active guard here but Grantham has managed to pass into half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Green tries to get to full guard but Grantham has control of the leg.
Grantham seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Grantham is looking for a kimura but Green is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Grantham to get the leverage.

Grantham is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Green sees it coming and defends easily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gray Grantham will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Green gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Grantham holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Grantham throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Green blocks it with crossed arms.
Grantham misses with a knee to the head.

Green has Grantham pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Green pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Grantham tumbling to the mat - Green dives into Grantham's guard.

Green has gone for a leg lock! Grantham slips out almost immediately though and dives into Green's guard.

Grantham drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Grantham jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Grantham drops back looking for a leg! Green is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Green manages to kick Grantham off! Grantham jumps back into Green's guard.

Grantham drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Green dives on top into guard.
Green must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Green postures up in Grantham's guard and throws a big left but Grantham blocks it.

Green postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Grantham is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Green, into his guard.

Grantham is pushing down on Green's leg trying to pass to half guard. Green is fighting to maintain full guard but Grantham has managed to sneak the leg through.
