PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vincent White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Shaun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaun has chosen The Soviettes - "#1 Is Number Two" as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Vincent White!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Shaun!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Steve Erwin and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaun tries to clinch but White is having none of it.
White throws a right and a left that both miss.

White fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shaun sprawls well initially but White persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

White is taking a breather. Shaun says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
White is trying to control. Shaun wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Shaun is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Shaun is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
White cracks Shaun with a solid left hand.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
White postures up.

Shaun working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. White doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. White manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as White accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
White throws and elbow that misses. Shaun uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in White's guard. Nice move by Shaun!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Shaun fakes a jab and throws a low kick but White checks it well.

Shaun rushes White and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Shaun is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
White tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shaun was well out of range. Poor timing from White.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
White ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shaun moves away.

Shaun instigates a clinch.
White tries for a takedown. No joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vincent White. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shaun pulls guard.
White loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Shaun is working an open guard so White takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Shaun wants to hold on but White pushes him away.

White is landing with some decent strikes but Shaun is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

White is looking to advance position but Shaun has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Shaun has the hooks in. White is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
White grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

White is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Shaun.
White biding his time here by controlling the hands, looking to escape.

White is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Shaun gets his way!
You can see the frustration on White's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shaun had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. White is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Shaun Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take White's back instead.

Shaun is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Mark Shaun showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
White has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shaun is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
White tries to pull guard but Shaun holds him up against the cage and eventually White drops back down to his feet.

Shaun decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Shaun stuffs the takedown attempt from White. White gets slowly back to his feet.
White looks to score with a jab to the body but Shaun is just out of range.
White jabbing away but nothing is landing.

White feints and as Shaun raises his hands in defense, White changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Shaun comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shaun has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
