Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bingo Berra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hakuna Matata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bingo Berra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hakuna Matata!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Berra clinches with his opponent.

Matata pulls guard.
Berra wants to stand but Matata has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Matata trying to control the position.
Matata looking to hit a scissor sweep but Berra is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Matata looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Berra has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Matata is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Berra won't allow Matata to sweep him here.
Matata manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Berra manages to get himself to full guard.
Matata wants to control from the top but Berra keeps moving.
Berra has his hands on Matata's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Matata trying to control but Berra is working from the bottom.
Berra might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Matata looking to sit in guard and control but Berra gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Despite being in the dominant position, Hakuna Matata just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Matata swats away the attempt to clinch by Berra.

Berra closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Berra decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Berra fakes the leg kick and cracks Matata in the body.
Berra throws a sloppy head kick and Matata moves out of range easily.
A combination from Berra does no damage.
Berra shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matata as he jumps to the side.
Berra shoots in but Matata avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Matata looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Matata perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Berra wants to get back to his feet.
Berra wants to control but Matata is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Berra makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Berra.
Matata is breathing heavily.

Berra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matata doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Matata manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Matata passes into half guard.
Matata is looking to stall here but Berra recovers full guard.

Berra has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Matata can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Matata looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Berra shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Matata counters with a shoot takedown. Berra fights it but they end up in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hakuna Matata showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Berra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Matata!

Berra is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Matata can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Matata sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Matata has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Berra is working away from the top position though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Berra in particular looking to stall.
Matata keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Matata looking to hit a scissor sweep but Berra is one step ahead there.

Matata gets back to full guard.
Matata keeping moving, preventing Berra from controlling successfully.
Matata controls Berra momentarily but Berra frees himself.
Matata might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Berra kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Berra would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bingo Berra.
I think Berra has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
