Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Junior Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rutten has chosen Joe Esposito - Your the Best Around as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Junior Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bas Rutten!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutten fails to land with a series of punches.
Rutten swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rutten misses with a double jab.
Rutten misses with a two punch combination.
Rutten wants to slow Gracie down by chopping away at his legs.
Gracie tries to bum rush Rutten with a series of wild strikes but Rutten uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gracie has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Rutten finds it's way round the side to connect with Gracie's head.
Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Rutten scores with a jab to the jaw.
Rutten throws a combination that misses

and Gracie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gracie.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rutten wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Rutten keeps moving.

Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Rutten is looking to stand up but Gracie isn't so interested in that idea.

Gracie drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rutten manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gracie has Rutten in his guard.

Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Rutten uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rutten off and has taken his back!

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rutten's guard.

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rutten dives on top into guard.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rutten can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rutten got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rutten has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rutten throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Rutten is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Rutten has escaped and now he's on top!

Gracie working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rutten doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rutten manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rutten decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gracie, up you get!
Gracie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Rutten bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Rutten looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gracie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Rutten is looking to escape.
You get the feeling that Rutten really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Rutten trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gracie's guard.
Rutten is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Gracie is looking for a triangle but Rutten pushes his legs off easily.
Junior Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but Junior Gracie did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Rutten scores with a one two! Gracie had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

With the two fighters working up against the ropes, Rutten just misses with a elbow thrown towards Gracie's brow.
Rutten wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gracie has him pressed against the ropes.

Gracie tries for a takedown but Rutten manages to get underhooks.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Junior Gracie.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
