PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nicolas Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Ellison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cage comes to the cage accompanied by Amazing. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nicolas Cage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anthony Ellison!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cage drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ellison swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ellison working for a triangle but Cage defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ellison is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cage sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ellison's guard.
Cage trying to control from half guard but Ellison is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cage trying to mount his opponent but Ellison defends it.
Cage is working hard here to advance position.

Cage is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cage is breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Ellison shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cage has hold of Ellison's hands but Ellison slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Cage is defending against the submission attempts here by Ellison.

Ellison seems to be looking for submissions.
Ellison working Cage over with strikes.
Ellison looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Ellison with the ground and pound but Cage uses the opportunity to regain guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ellison wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cage wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Ellison is now in half guard.
Ellison wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cage keeps working.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A jab from Cage misses.

Ellison gets caught flat footed, as Cage shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ellison looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cage is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Anthony Ellison will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Cage with a poor takedown

so Ellison counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Cage wants to sweep here but Ellison controlling him for the moment.
Ellison throws a big right hand that misses.
Ellison wanted to stand there but Cage had control of the position.

Ellison thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ellison trying to control but Cage is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cage is trying to control the position but Ellison postures up.

Ellison is looking to work some ground and pound but Cage has wrist control.
Ellison trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Cage pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Cage misses with a takedown attempt

so Ellison counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Ellison drops back looking for a leg! Cage is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cage manages to kick Ellison off! Ellison jumps back into Cage's guard.

Ellison advances position into side control!
Cage is not content to let Ellison control the position.

Ellison tries for a kimura but Cage is defending well.

Ellison connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cage some visible discomfort.

Ellison working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Ellison goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Cage rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Ellison's guard! Nice work there by Cage!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Cage is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Ellison is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Ellison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ellison manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Ellison showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Ellison drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Cage misses with a takedown
and Ellison counters with a straight right hand.


It looks like Nicolas Cage has been cut.
Ellison tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cage swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ellison has his takedown stuffed

and Cage counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ellison's guard now.
Cage tries to free his leg and advance position but Ellison is retaining full guard.
Cage trying to control the position from guard on top but Ellison is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cage wants to stand but Ellison has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ellison manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cage manages to get himself to full guard.

Ellison drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ellison jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ellison trying to control but Cage is working from the bottom.
Ellison wants to pass the guard but Cage is keeping the position.
Ellison throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cage works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ellison wants to stand but Cage is controlling his posture from full guard.
Ellison pushing down on Cage's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Ellison is working for a submission of some sort.
Ellison throws a strike but Cage avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Ellison slips nicely into half guard.
Ellison is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Cage!
Ellison throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Ellison punching from mount but Cage doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Cage wants to control but Ellison is having none of it.
Anthony Ellison is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cage is trying to escape the mount.
Cage blocking the ground and pound.
Ellison content just to control the position here.
Ellison dominating with strikes here.

Anthony Ellison comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ellison has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
