PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Robert Holdstock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michio Suzuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Suzuki comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dragonball Z Theme kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Robert Holdstock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michio Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holdstock tries to clinch up.
Holdstock doesn't manage to clinch there - Suzuki circles away.
Suzuki closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Suzuki looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Suzuki keeping moving, preventing Holdstock from controlling successfully.
Suzuki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Suzuki scores with a hook to the body. Holdstock takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Suzuki throws out a loose jab but Holdstock uses good head movement to avoid it.
Holdstock throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Suzuki.
Suzuki ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Holdstock moves away.

Suzuki scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Holdstock feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Suzuki manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Holdstock manages to get himself to full guard.

Holdstock escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Suzuki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Suzuki wants to stand but Holdstock has his arm trapped.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Holdstock manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Holdstock is trying to get back to full guard.
Holdstock regains full guard. Nicely done.
Suzuki wants to control from the top but Holdstock keeps moving.
Suzuki working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Holdstock's head.
Suzuki throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Holdstock looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Suzuki has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Holdstock is proving hard to escape from.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Holdstock takes a swing at Suzuki's ribcage but misses.
Suzuki blocks the body kick.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Holdstock looks to land a body kick but Suzuki moved away.
Suzuki lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Suzuki moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Holdstock works Suzuki's body with a nice hook.

Holdstock feints and as Suzuki raises his hands in defense, Holdstock changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Suzuki looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Suzuki keeping moving, preventing Holdstock from controlling successfully.
Holdstock works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Holdstock seems to be looking for submissions.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Suzuki scores with the left hand. Holdstock knows he should have avoided that one.
Holdstock keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Holdstock shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Suzuki defends it nicely.

Suzuki throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Holdstock tries a head kick but it misses.
Suzuki looks to land a left hand but Holdstock moved out of range nicely.

Holdstock moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Suzuki fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Holdstock on the side of the head.
Suzuki missing with a left hand there. Holdstock was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Holdstock moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Suzuki checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

Holdstock moves into range and clinches up with Suzuki.

Suzuki escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Suzuki swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Holdstock counters with a low kick, right behind Suzuki 's knee.
Suzuki takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Holdstock tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Holdstock gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Holdstock tries to close the distance and clinch up but Suzuki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Holdstock shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Suzuki defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Holdstock. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Suzuki will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Suzuki leaves Holdstock with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Suzuki lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Holdstock circles away quickly and effectively.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Suzuki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Holdstock.

Michio Suzuki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Holdstock has momentary wrist control but Suzuki slips an elbow through the middle.

Holdstock is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Holdstock is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Suzuki is just riding it out for now. Holdstock eventually gives up the hold.

Suzuki is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Suzuki holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Holdstock tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Suzuki wants to control but Holdstock is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Suzuki is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Holdstock has taken his back.
Will Holdstock go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
