PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wanderlei Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikami Teru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikami Teru!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Teru tries to avoid it but Mendes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Teru to the ground. Teru escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mendes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Teru is fending him off so far but Mendes persists. Nope, Teru circles away and we're back to standing.
Teru cracks a nice hook into Mendes's ribs.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Teru as he jumps to the side.

Mendes takes the fight into the clinch.
Mendes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Teru smiles and moves away.

Mendes has closed the distance and engaged Teru in a clinch.
Mendes drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Teru gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Teru wants to stand and escape but instead Mendes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Teru can do anything to dispel that myth.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Teru lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mendes circles away quickly and effectively.
Mendes shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Teru pinned against the cage. Teru gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Teru throws a hook to the side of Mendes's head but Mendes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Mikami Teru seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mikami Teru showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Mendes with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Teru to score with a decent uppercut.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mendes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mendes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mendes is on top in guard.
Wanderlei Mendes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mikami Teru is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Teru wants to sweep here but Mendes controlling him for the moment.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wanderlei Mendes.
I think Teru has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
