PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris McCoy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rock Damage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris McCoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rock Damage!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCoy shoots for a double leg takedown but Damage sprawls well. He's pushed McCoy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rock Damage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McCoy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Damage is trying to stand.
McCoy trying to mount his opponent but Damage defends it.

Damage kicks off McCoy and gets to his feet.
McCoy is trying hard to land a takedown here. Damage sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

McCoy gets the takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McCoy is looking to take a break and control but Damage is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McCoy working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Damage manages to get back to half guard.
Damage wants to control but McCoy is keeping busy.
Damage slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

McCoy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Damage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McCoy won't allow Damage to get back to his feet.
Damage looks gassed!
McCoy in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Damage wants to stand but McCoy is controlling the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Damage misses with an uppercut. McCoy saw that one coming.

McCoy drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Damage is trying to escape the position but McCoy is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris McCoy dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


McCoy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Damage defends it nicely.
Damage stuffs the takedown attempt from McCoy. McCoy gets slowly back to his feet.
Damage misses with a wild combination.
McCoy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Damage's waist but Damage gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCoy off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris McCoy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McCoy walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
McCoy checks a leg kick.
Damage darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Damage looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Damage is breathing heavily.
McCoy fails with the takedown.

McCoy is in close to Damage's body, working some short punches and elbows.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Damage keeping full guard, as McCoy tries to pass.
McCoy looking to sit in guard and control but Damage gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Damage wants to stand but McCoy has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

McCoy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Damage stops McCoy from standing up.
Damage postures up in McCoy's guard and throws a big left but McCoy blocks it.
McCoy is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Damage stuffs the takedown.

Damage gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McCoy looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Damage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Damage keeping moving, preventing McCoy from controlling successfully.
McCoy is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris McCoy will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



McCoy shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Damage tries to roll over but McCoy keeps him under control.
McCoy trying to control the action but Damage is working from the bottom.
McCoy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Damage on the ground.
McCoy takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Damage takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

McCoy is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
McCoy landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
McCoy working over Damage with some ground and pound. Damage looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The fighters are battling for position here. Damage manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
McCoy wants to control from the top but Damage keeps moving.
McCoy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Damage's head.
Chris McCoy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rock Damage has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McCoy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
