Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Petrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunnar Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Petrick Cote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gunnar Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Nelson or perhaps it was just good defense by Cote which made him look bad.
Cote lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Gunnar Nelson has been cut.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Cote shows good takedown defense.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nelson.

Cote explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Nelson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Petrick Cote has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gunnar Nelson.
Nelson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cote avoids it really well and circles away.
A left lands for Cote.

Cote closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nelson to the mat! Nelson manages to get full guard.

Cote has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Cote looking to sit in guard and control but Nelson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Nelson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cote is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cote has escaped and now he's on top!
Cote knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground.

Cote wants to control from the top but Nelson keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nelson has an active guard here but Cote has managed to pass into half guard.
Nelson tries to roll over but Cote keeps him under control.

Cote postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Nelson to stand up.

Cote is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nelson's half guard.
Nelson wants to get back to full guard.
Cote seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Nelson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cote is working away from the top position though.
Cote is looking to take a break and control but Nelson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Nelson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Cote is keen to just control but Nelson is a slippery customer.
Nelson is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nelson tries to get to full guard but Cote has control of the leg.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Nelson is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Cote.
A head kick misses from Cote.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cote has Nelson up against the cage in a clinch.
Nelson is trying to drag Cote to the mat but Cote just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cote fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Nelson on the side of the head.
Nelson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Cote shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Nelson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Nelson is still in real trouble! Can Cote finish him?
A control attempt from Nelson but he's now mounted!
Nelson seems to have recovered his senses.
Nelson is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson tries to hold on but Cote pushes him away.
Nelson is breathing heavily.
Cote sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Nelson is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Cote controlling from the full mount.
Nelson tries to reverse the position but Cote maintains control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nelson gets back to half guard.
Nelson is looking for a sweep. Cote is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cote is taking a breather. Nelson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Cote thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nelson's head.
Cote looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Nelson is controlling Cote's trapped leg to prevent Cote from advancing to side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nelson wants to control but Cote is keeping busy.
Cote is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Nelson is controlling Cote's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Nelson is refusing to be controlled, as Cote sits in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nelson trying to control but Cote postures up.
Cote is taking a breather. Nelson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nelson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cote's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nelson moves into full mount! Cote won't be happy about that!
Petrick Cote is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Nelson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Nelson is looking to work his way around to Cote's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Cote really wants to buck Nelson off and get back to his feet.

Gunnar Nelson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nelson throws some wild stikes that Cote manages to avoid easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Petrick Cote showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cote has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
