PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ashtyn McFists (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenshin Asano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ashtyn McFists!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenshin Asano!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Asano shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McFists but McFists pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McFists shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Asano defends it nicely.
McFists could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Asano shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches McFists napping and manages to drive through into side control!
McFists is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Asano off and has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McFists is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Asano is defending well though. McFists let's go of the attempt for now.
McFists is looking to control Asano but Asano is wriggling around and keeping busy.
McFists lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Asano tries to escape but McFists has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Asano is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Will McFists go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Asano breaks McFists's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Asano drops back looking for a leg! McFists is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McFists manages to kick Asano off! Asano jumps back into McFists's guard.

McFists working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Asano doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Asano manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
McFists is breathing heavily.
Asano passes McFists's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Asano lands a nice short elbow.
McFists wants to get back to full guard.
Asano working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

McFists tries to kick Asano off but Asano keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
McFists trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Asano wants to work for an arm triangle but McFists is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McFists wants to control but Asano is keeping busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Asano looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

McFists wants to control but Asano is keeping busy and won't allow it.
McFists has hold of Asano's hands but Asano slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
McFists moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Asano stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McFists swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McFists wants to sweep but no luck.

McFists is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Asano defends well.
McFists is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Asano is looking to clinch.
McFists throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Asano's head.
McFists fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Asano closes the distance and clinches.
Asano is trying to drag McFists to the mat but McFists just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

McFists has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Asano avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
McFists is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Asano gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

McFists fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Asano sprawls well initially but McFists persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Asano really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McFists. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Asano can do anything to dispel that myth.

McFists is landing with some decent strikes but Asano is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Asano gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and McFists counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Asano is lucky that one didn't land flush.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McFists wants to get up but he can't break Asano's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Asano escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McFists gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Asano circles away from the clinch attempt.

McFists shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Asano is trying to defend but McFists finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

I would just about give that final round to Kenshin Asano.
I think Asano has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
