PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dan Wasabi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Probert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Probert's choice of entrance music: walk (pantera). Bob Probert told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dan Wasabi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Probert!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fighters circle momentarily. Probert darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Dan Wasabi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Probert keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Wasabi.
Wasabi throws a series of punches but Probert avoids them all with ease.
Wasabi misses with the combination.
Wasabi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Probert moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Probert shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Probert thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Probert slips a nice elbow through Wasabi's hands, connecting with Wasabi's forehead.
Wasabi blocking the ground and pound attempt from Probert.
Wasabi is looking for a sweep. Probert is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wasabi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Probert is pressing down on Wasabi's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wasabi is holding on for now.
Wasabi is looking to improve his position.

Probert throws a strike but Wasabi avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Probert has gone for a leg lock! Wasabi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Probert's guard.
Probert throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Probert trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Probert is striking off his back. Wasabi thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Wasabi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Probert manages to get to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Probert throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Probert looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Wasabi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Probert manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Probert wants to get back to full guard.
Probert is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Probert trying to control from the bottom.
Probert connecting with a few gentle strikes.
Probert makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Probert.
Probert keeping full guard, as Wasabi tries to pass.

Probert is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Wasabi is aware though and is defending well.
Probert trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Wasabi pushes down on Probert's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Probert tries to get to full guard but Wasabi has control of the leg.
Probert is looking to get back to full guard here but Wasabi has managed to pass to side control instead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Wasabi moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Probert has worked his arm free - good work by Probert!
Wasabi is breathing heavily.
Wasabi avoids the strikes from the bottom by Probert.
Probert is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Wasabi off and has taken his back!

Probert looking for the choke from the back.
Probert has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Wasabi's body.
Probert throwing damaging strikes from the back! Wasabi could be in trouble here!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Probert dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Probert takes the fight into the clinch.
Probert is leaning against Wasabi and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Probert manages to break the clinch.
Probert slips a jab and a cross from Wasabi.
Wasabi looks to land a combination but Probert avoids it well.
Wasabi lands a body shot.
Probert slips a jab from Wasabi.
Wasabi fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Wasabi throws a shot from downtown. Probert moves away and avoids it.
Wasabi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Wasabi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Probert decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Probert missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Probert looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wasabi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Probert looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Wasabi wants to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Probert passes to side control.
Probert scoring with punches from side control.
Wasabi taking punishment in the form of punches.
Wasabi regains half guard there - taking advantage of Probert's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Probert drops an elbow to the side of Wasabi's head.

Probert is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Probert trying to control the action but Wasabi is working from the bottom.
Wasabi tries to roll over but Probert keeps him under control.

Probert winds up and cracks Wasabi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Probert not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Wasabi looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Probert is nestled in close to Wasabi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Wasabi wants to get back to full guard.
Probert lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Ground and pound from Probert.

Probert is looking for a kimura here.
Wasabi has hold of Probert's hands but Probert slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Probert content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Probert thows a huge punch but Wasabi dodges it nicely.
Probert wants to control but Wasabi is keeping him busy.
Probert takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Probert slips a nice elbow through Wasabi's hands, connecting with Wasabi's forehead.
Probert working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Wasabi's thigh. Wasabi counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Wasabi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Probert showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Nice straight punches there by Wasabi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Wasabi.
Probert steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Wasabi.
Dan Wasabi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wasabi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Probert has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wasabi finds it's way round the side to connect with Probert's head.
Probert dodges the punch combination from Wasabi.

Probert displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wasabi throws out the jab.

Probert darts in and clinches Wasabi up against the cage.
Probert lands with a right to the head.
Wasabi wants to break the clinch but can't.

Probert lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Probert presses Wasabi against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Probert just leaning against Wasabi, taking a breather.

Probert works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Probert showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Probert trying to control but Wasabi is working from the bottom.
Probert trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Probert is working Wasabi over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Probert makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Bob Probert has got the better of the ground game so far.

Probert throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wasabi works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Probert in particular looking to stall.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Wasabi tries to reverse the position but Probert maintains control.

Bob Probert is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Probert is landing with some decent strikes but Wasabi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bob Probert comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Probert winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
