PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between William McDonough (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Riddick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McDonough comes into the arena with The Beast by Tech N9ne blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riddick throws a head kick that misses.

McDonough drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

McDonough working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

McDonough has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Riddick!

McDonough throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Riddick is desperately trying to improve his position but McDonough has a good base and remains in mount.

McDonough with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
McDonough won't let Riddick get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McDonough looking to control but Riddick is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Riddick's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

McDonough is working for a guillotine from mount but Riddick frees his head quite easily.
Riddick is wriggling around trying to escape.

McDonough sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
You get the feeling that Riddick really doesn't like being in this position too much.

McDonough has hold of Riddick's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Riddick manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Riddick is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
McDonough throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Riddick because McDonough loaded up on that one.

McDonough jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Riddick is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Riddick and McDonough has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

McDonough swings around for an armbar but Riddick sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into McDonough's guard.

McDonough manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Riddick manages to get himself to full guard.

Riddick is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Riddick had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. McDonough is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Riddick Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take McDonough's back instead.
Riddick is trying to stick to McDonough's back but McDonough is turning into Riddick. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Riddick's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by McDonough.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

McDonough postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Riddick is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McDonough, into his guard.
McDonough has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Riddick throws a sloppy head kick and McDonough moves out of range easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Riddick looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A head kick from Riddick lands but McDonough takes it in his stride.
McDonough throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
McDonough misses with a head kick.
Riddick is looking to land body kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDonough circles away from the clinch attempt.

McDonough fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Riddick manages to avoid it.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McDonough shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than McDonough was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

McDonough looking to isolate an arm here. Riddick doesn't see it coming and as McDonough extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by McDonough!
