PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Critical Damage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hernandez Escado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Critical Damage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hernandez Escado!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damage looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Escado is fending him off so far but Damage persists. Nope, Escado circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Damage.

Damage gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Damage is trying to control the position but Escado postures up.
Damage keeping moving, preventing Escado from controlling successfully.
Escado trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Damage is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Escado is working Damage over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Damage not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Damage keeping moving, preventing Escado from controlling successfully.

Damage looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Escado has picked Damage up and slammed him! Damage can't keep hold of the triangle and Escado manages to pass to side control!

Damage is not content to let Escado control the position.

Let's hope that Escado has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Escado stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Escado throws an elbow but Damage slips to the side and avoids it well.

Damage wants to control but Escado postures up.

Escado wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Damage, who protects the arm well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Damage shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Escado counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Damage!

Escado is going olschool here, as he tries to force Damage to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Damage shrugs it off.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Damage is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Escado jumps into side control!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Damage drops back looking for a leg! Escado is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Escado manages to kick Damage off! Damage jumps back into Escado's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Damage wanted to stand there but Escado had control of the position.

Damage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Escado has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Damage has managed to get both his arms back between Escado's legs - danger averted.
Damage would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Escado has his foot on Damage's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Damage works his way back into a safe position though.
Hernandez Escado has got the better of the ground game so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Damage shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Damage showed some decent athleticism there.

Damage tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Escado is defending against the submission attempts here by Damage.
Damage is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Damage scores with a couple of good head shots there.

Damage stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Escado gets caught flat footed, as Damage shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Damage cracks Escado with a solid left hand.
Escado tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Escado keeping moving, preventing Damage from controlling successfully.
Damage is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Damage lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Damage thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Escado working for a triangle but Damage defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Critical Damage dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Damage throws a series of punches but Escado avoids them all with ease.

and Escado counters with a shoot takedown. Damage fights it but they end up in guard.

Damage throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Escado escapes and throws Damage's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Escado decides to stand back up. Escado steps back and let's Damage get back to his feet.

Escado shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Escado was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Escado tries to push Damage's head away but Damage is holding on tight.

Escado prevents Damage from getting the reversal.
Escado lands with some strikes.

Escado moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Damage has worked his arm free - good work by Damage!
Damage manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Damage looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Damage is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Damage is working hard here to advance position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Damage is refusing to be controlled, as Escado sits in half guard.

Escado looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Damage trying to control from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Damage gets full guard.
Damage looking to control but Escado passes into half guard.
Damage is not content to let Escado control the position.
Damage wants to control but Escado is keeping busy.
Damage moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Damage trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Escado gets to his feet. Damage looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

and Escado counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Escado.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hernandez Escado comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Escado has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
