PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Capuyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John The Butcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Capuyan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John The Butcher!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Capuyan or perhaps it was just good defense by The Butcher which made him look bad.
Capuyan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Capuyan dodges the punch combination from The Butcher.
The Butcher shoots in and drives through. Capuyan sprawls well.
Capuyan shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rocky Capuyan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

so The Butcher counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Capuyan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The Butcher tries to stand but Capuyan is controlling from the bottom.

Capuyan had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. The Butcher is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Capuyan Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take The Butcher's back instead.

Capuyan throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage.
Capuyan is looking to control The Butcher but The Butcher is wriggling around and keeping busy.
The Butcher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Capuyan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Capuyan seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under The Butcher's chin but The Butcher turns very nicely into Capuyan's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by The Butcher.

Capuyan is working an open guard so The Butcher takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

and Capuyan counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Capuyan has The Butcher pressed against the cage, preventing The Butcher from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

The Butcher pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The fight stays on the outside here - Capuyan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
The Butcher throws a head kick but Capuyan moves out of range.
The Butcher will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Capuyan looks for a takedown but The Butcher sprawls well.
The Butcher throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Capuyan's waist but Capuyan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing The Butcher off to one side.

and Capuyan counters with a big head kick but The Butcher shrugs it off.

Capuyan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Capuyan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and The Butcher counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John The Butcher dominated that round.

Capuyan misses with a takedown attempt - The Butcher sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Capuyan looks to land a right hand but The Butcher moved out of range.
Horrible takedown by Capuyan or perhaps it was just good defense by The Butcher which made him look bad.
The Butcher misses with a two punch combination.
The Butcher changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Capuyan tries to avoid it but The Butcher manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Capuyan to the ground. Capuyan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Capuyan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The Butcher swats away the attempt to clinch by Capuyan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The Butcher looks to land a combination. Capuyan sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
The Butcher bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The Butcher is trying hard to land a takedown here. Capuyan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The Butcher's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and The Butcher duly obliges.
Capuyan doesn't succeed with the takedown
and The Butcher counters with a lovely straight right hand!

The Butcher is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Capuyan's half guard.
The Butcher tries to stand and escape but Capuyan is controlling the position.

The Butcher stands up and beckons Capuyan to join him on the feet.

A left and a right from The Butcher both land. Nice combination.

The Butcher shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Capuyan's guard.

Capuyan is trying to control the position but The Butcher postures up.

The Butcher stands and steps away. Capuyan gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The Butcher looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Capuyan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Capuyan showed some decent athleticism there.
Capuyan tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John The Butcher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Capuyan has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


Capuyan is rocked!
The Butcher feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Capuyan crashing to the mat! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:50 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). John The Butcher!
