PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Laurent Gardan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gardan comes to the cage accompanied by "Know your enemy" - RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Laurent Gardan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Jay!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jay misses with a low kick.
Jay wants to slow Gardan down by chopping away at his legs.
Gardan throws a leg kick that misses.
Gardan looks to land a body kick but Jay moved away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Jay counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gardan!
Jay can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gardan is looking to escape.

Jay is going olschool here, as he tries to force Gardan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gardan shrugs it off.

Jay moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gardan has worked his arm free - good work by Gardan!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jay lands a decent elbow from side control.

Jay goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gardan has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jay but great work by Gardan.

Jay tries to improve position but can't.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jay fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Gardan gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jay to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Gardan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jay on the ground.

Gardan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gardan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Gardan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Jay thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bob Jay dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jay looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Gardan wants to pass the guard but Jay is keeping the position.

Jay has his foot on Gardan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gardan works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gardan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The cut man is working on Bob Jay's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jay misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gardan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jay paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gardan lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Gardan lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Jay has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Gardan.
Gardan throws a head kick that misses.
Gardan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jay moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jay pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jay steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gardan. That one must have hurt.
Gardan throws a low kick, looking for Jay's leg but Jay calmly moves out of range.
Gardan scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Jay's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Gardan throws a push kick but Jay slaps the foot to one side.
Jay throws a head kick but Gardan moves out of range.

Gardan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
