PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Whizzer Oz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by All My Life. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Whizzer Oz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Man!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Man.
A jab from Oz does it's job there.
Nice body punch from Oz.
Oz takes a swing at Man's ribcage but misses.
A combination from Oz does no damage.
Oz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Man misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Oz stuffs the takedown.
Whizzer Oz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Man.

It looks like Joe Man has been cut.
Man takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Oz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Man looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Man is looking for a kimura but Oz is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Man to get the leverage.

Man perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Oz throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Oz kicks off Man and gets to his feet.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Oz!

Oz gets the takedown into side control.
Man is trying to get back to half guard.

Oz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Donk. Oz catches Man right on the button with a cross.

Oz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Man looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Oz postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Man to stand up.

Oz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Man takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Oz scores with punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man is looking for a sweep.
Oz lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Man down.
Oz trying to control the action but Man is working from the bottom.
Man is looking to regain half guard here but Oz keeps moving and retains side control.

Man tries to control but Oz manages to take his back.
Oz tries to keep control of the position but Man is staying busy.
Oz landing with strikes.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Man is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Oz.
Oz connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Man to escape the position.
Man tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Oz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Oz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Man sprawls well. Man wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Oz gets slowly back to his feet.
Man doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Oz counters with a one-two to the body.

Oz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Man tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Man takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Man some visible discomfort.
Man tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Oz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Man gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Man works his way to full guard. Good work.

Man is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Whizzer Oz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Oz lands a couple of elbows.

Man wants to control the position but Oz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Oz takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Man is trying to stand up here but Oz is controlling him well.
Man is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Oz scores with a couple of nice shots.

Man wants to control but Oz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Oz connects with a nice short shot to Man's temple.
Oz lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Oz prevents Man from improving his position.
It looks like Oz is going to stand back up.
Oz controlling the action here.
Man moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Oz tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.
Man manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oz manages to get himself to full guard.
Man won't allow Oz to sweep him here.
Oz keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Man with a flurry of punches that miss.

Man prevents Oz from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Oz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Man moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Man misses with a takedown

and Oz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Man won't be happy with that.

Oz working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Man tries to buck Oz off but Oz is having none of it.
Oz lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Man down.
Man is not content to let Oz control the position.

Oz decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Oz moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oz misses with a wild combination.
Oz throws a right and a left that Man avoids nicely.
Man looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Man closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Man is working to tighten is grip on Oz's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Oz has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Man is really squeezing tight and eventually Oz passes out! Man breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Joe Man!
