PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Junior Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Junior Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Coleman!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner sizes up Coleman with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Turner lands with a straight right. Coleman didn't see that one coming.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Turner as he jumps to the side.
Turner throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Coleman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
A punch combination from Coleman misses.

Turner closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Turner lands in his opponent's guard.
Coleman looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Turner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Turner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Coleman's head.

Coleman is looking for a triangle but Turner pushes his legs off easily.

Coleman is trying to control the position from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Turner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Turner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coleman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Coleman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Turner working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Turner with a flurry of punches that miss.
Turner is breathing heavily.
Coleman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Coleman has his feet on Turner's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
No joy there for Coleman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Good leg kick by Turner there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

enabling Turner to counter with a crisp jab.

and Turner counters with a shoot takedown. Coleman fights it but they end up in guard.
Turner postures up in Coleman's guard and throws a big left but Coleman blocks it.
Turner keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Coleman's head.

Turner is in close to Coleman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Coleman has control of Turner's left arm, preventing Turner from doing any damage.
Coleman wants to improve his position but instead Turner has moved into half guard.
Coleman on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Coleman wants to control but Turner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Turner slips a nice elbow through Coleman's hands, connecting with Coleman's forehead.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Turner lands a nice short elbow.
Turner not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Turner missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Turner is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Coleman is just riding it out for now. Turner eventually gives up the hold.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Turner cracks Coleman with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

and Turner counters with a lovely straight right hand!

and Turner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Junior Turner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Coleman.

Turner gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Coleman wants to stand but Turner has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Turner scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Turner tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Coleman paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Coleman doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Turner counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Coleman avoids the head kick by Turner.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A low kick from Coleman is predictable there
and Turner counters with a straight right hand.
Turner tries to score with a low kick but Coleman moves his leg out of the way.
Turner stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Turner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Coleman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Turner's guard.
Coleman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Turner kicks Coleman off and gets to his feet.
Coleman wants to clinch but Turner slips to the side
enabling Turner to counter with a crisp jab.
Turner connects with a nice looking jab.
Mark Coleman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Coleman fails with the takedown

and Turner counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Coleman's guard now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turner tries to stand but Coleman is controlling from the bottom.
Turner throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Coleman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Turner postures up and lands a big shot to Coleman's brow.
Turner in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Turner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Coleman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Coleman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Coleman!
Turner is not content to let Coleman control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Junior Turner dominated that second round.
That's time! Turner's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Turner tries to clinch but Coleman is having none of it.
Mark Coleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Coleman manages to break the clinch.
Turner motions for Coleman to come forward. Turner throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Turner is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

and Turner counters with a nice double leg into side control. Coleman won't be happy with that.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
You can see the frustration on Coleman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Turner is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Coleman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

enabling Turner to counter with a crisp jab.
Turner uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Coleman.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Turner as he jumps to the side.

and Coleman counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Coleman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Turner!

Junior Turner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coleman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Turner is working to get back to half guard.
Turner wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Can Turner hold on?! Coleman is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.
Mark Coleman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Junior Turner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Turner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
