Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Zion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zion comes to the cage accompanied by Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards - 1%. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bob Zion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Slaughter.
Slaughter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Zion connects with a high kick.


It looks like Joe Slaughter has been cut.
Zion throws a shot to the body.
Slaughter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Slaughter is looking to clinch.

Slaughter moves into range and clinches up with Zion.

Zion manages to break the clinch.

Slaughter tries to keep at a distance but Zion has taken the fight into the clinch.
Slaughter drops down looking for an ankle pick but Zion pulls his leg out and moves away.
A chopping leg kick lands by Zion.
Zion lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Zion.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Slaughter goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Zion lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Slaughter circles away quickly and effectively.
Danga de danga de dang - Zion scores with a four punch combination!
Zion lands a jab-cross combination.


That has opened up Joe Slaughter's cut even more.
Slaughter looks gassed!

Zion stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Zion wants it to stay on the feet.
Bob Zion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Slaughter.
Slaughter misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Zion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Slaughter takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Slaughter wants to clinch

and Zion holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Slaughter prevents the takedown attempt.

Zion breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Zion shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Zion was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Slaughter tries to hold on but Zion postures up.
Zion blocks Slaughter's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Slaughter is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Slaughter bucks up and throws Zion to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Slaughter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Slaughter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zion can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Zion prevents Slaughter from getting back to his feet.
Zion wants to stand but Slaughter has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slaughter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Slaughter pushes Zion off and scrambles back to his feet.
Slaughter fails with the takedown
and Zion counters with an inside leg kick.
Zion throws a quick inside leg kick.

and Zion makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Slaughter has his takedown stuffed
and Zion counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Zion throws a right and a left that both miss.
Slaughter misses with a takedown attempt
and Zion counters with a nice low kick that buckles Slaughter's knee momentarily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Slaughter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Slaughter dives in and grabs Zion's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zion pushes down on Slaughter's head and hops out.

Slaughter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Zion is trying to defend but Slaughter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Zion on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Zion tries to get out of the position.
Zion tries to roll over but Slaughter keeps him under control.
Zion slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Zion has his hands on Slaughter's head, controlling the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Zion preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Slaughter trying to control the position from guard on top but Zion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Slaughter won't allow Zion to get back to his feet.

Slaughter throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Zion keeping moving, preventing Slaughter from controlling successfully.
Zion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Slaughter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zion pinned against the cage. Zion gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Slaughter throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Zion moves into the clinch.

Zion breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Slaughter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Slaughter is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Zion.
Slaughter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zion tries to avoid it but Slaughter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zion to the ground. Zion escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bob Zion has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Slaughter.
Zion connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Slaughter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Slaughter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zion swivels and escapes.

Slaughter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Zion looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Zion tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Slaughter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Slaughter prevents Zion from standing back up.
Slaughter thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Slaughter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Slaughter shoots in but Zion avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Slaughter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zion circles away.

Slaughter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zion's head.

A close second round but Joe Slaughter will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Zion in particular looking to stall.

Bob Zion overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Zion has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
