Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Duncan Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Pointek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pointek has chosen Sevendust - Enemy as his entrance music. The key to victory for Duncan Powers has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pointek has a takedown stuffed.
Powers checks a leg kick.
Powers shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pointek as he jumps to the side.
The fight stays on the outside here - Powers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pointek scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Nice defenses there by Powers.
Powers moves out of range of the strikes.
Powers blocks a low kick nicely.
Powers fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Pointek shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Powers's guard.
Pointek is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Powers keeping moving, preventing Pointek from controlling successfully.
Powers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pointek is one step ahead there.
Pointek has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pointek trying to control the position from guard on top but Powers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pointek chips away with some ground and pound.
Powers trying to keep a closed guard but Pointek is proving a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Powers is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Pointek moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Pointek shoots in but Powers avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Pointek swats away the attempt to clinch by Powers.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Powers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pointek's waist but Powers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Powers off to one side.
Pointek throws a push kick but Powers slaps the foot to one side.
Powers is looking to clinch.
Good work by Powers as he checks the leg kick.

Pointek gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
You can see the frustration on Powers's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Pointek dominated that round.

Powers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Powers tries to clinch there but Pointek circles away.
Pointek takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Pointek blocks a head kick by Powers.

Powers scores with a takedown into Pointek's guard.
Pointek wants to control but Powers passes easily into half guard.
Pointek is holding on to half guard well.
Powers is tying to control. Pointek wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Pointek is breathing heavily.

Powers is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pointek defends it well.
Pointek has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Powers is working away from the top position though.

Pointek actively working from the bottom here.
Pointek is looking to improve his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Pointek avoids the head kick by Powers.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Powers lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pointek backs up against the cage.
Pointek misses with a low kick.
Duncan Powers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Pointek.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Powers can't do much from the bottom here.
Pointek wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powers keeps working.

Pointek tries for a kimura but Powers is defending well.

Pointek thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Powers is not content to let Pointek control the position.
Pointek in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Powers takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.


It looks like Duncan Powers has been cut.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Powers is trying to control Pointek's posture but Pointek avoids it.
Powers is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Powers is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Powers tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Powers is trying to buck Pointek off.
Pointek connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Powers some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mike Pointek will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Duncan Powers's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Pointek looks to land a left hand but Powers moved out of range nicely.
Powers tries to clinch but Pointek is having none of it.
Pointek throws a lazy uppercut

and Powers counters by clinching up.
Pointek looking to slow down the pace here.
Pointek wants to get back to striking at distance but Powers won't allow it.
Powers has had enough of the clinch but Pointek keeps him there for the moment.
Powers wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Powers prevents a takedown attempt there.
Pointek stalls.
Pointek fails to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pointek has Powers pressed against the cage.

Powers manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Powers tries to clinch there but Pointek circles away.
Pointek throws a lazy right hand but Powers sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Powers will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Pointek closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pointek lands in his opponent's guard.
Pointek wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving.
Powers seems keen to control Pointek's posture.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Powers is pulling down on Pointek's head. It's preventing any offense from Pointek, at least for the moment.

Powers wants to get back to his feet but Pointek drags him back down.
Powers can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Pointek throws a leg kick

and Powers counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Powers content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pointek is looking to improve his position.

Pointek is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Powers pulls his head out easily.
Powers is taking a breather. Pointek says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Duncan Powers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Powers decides to stand up.
Powers lands with a nice body punch.
A clash of legs there as Powers blocks the low kick.
Powers doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Pointek counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pointek trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.
Pointek trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mike Pointek.
I've got Pointek winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
