PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Curwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riccardo Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Curwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Riccardo Ramirez!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Ramirez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Curwin moves into the clinch.

Curwin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ramirez avoids a kick to the body.
Ramirez clinches but Curwin breaks the clinch
and Curwin counters with a low kick, right behind Ramirez 's knee.
Curwin slips a jab and a cross from Ramirez.
Ramirez misses with a double jab
and Curwin counters with a nice low kick that buckles Ramirez's knee momentarily.
Ramirez tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Curwin holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Curwin breaks the clinch.
Curwin circles away from the clinch attempt

and Curwin counters by moving into the clinch.

Ramirez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Curwin closes the distance and clinches.
Ramirez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Ramirez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Curwin jumps guard but Ramirez stands there with Curwin around his waist. Curwin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Ramirez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Curwin has managed to clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Ramirez.
Curwin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Ramirez.
Curwin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Ramirez just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Curwin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Curwin looking to throw knees to the head but Ramirez is blocking nicely.
Ramirez lands a hook that snaps the head of Curwin backwards.
Curwin tries to pull guard but Ramirez holds him up against the cage and eventually Curwin drops back down to his feet.
Curwin tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ramirez smiles and moves away.
Ramirez closes the distance but Curwin moves to the side
and Curwin counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Ramirez looks gassed!

and Curwin counters by moving into the clinch.

Curwin drags the fight down to the ground.
Curwin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Curwin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Curwin landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Curwin wants to take a breather but Ramirez is having none of it.
Ramirez pushes Curwin off looking to stand but Curwin dives back in and keeps control.
Curwin is trying to control. Ramirez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Curwin works his way into side control.
Ramirez takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Curwin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ramirez down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Curwin is looking to take a break and control but Ramirez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ramirez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Curwin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Curwin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ramirez is looking to reverse the position.
Curwin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Curwin is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Ramirez looks calm but he's in trouble here. Curwin gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Ramirez is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Curwin lets go of the hold and Ramirez can pop his arm back in it's socket.
