PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Daddio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendes has chosen Flow Motion as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daddio swats away the attempt to clinch by Mendes.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Daddio as he jumps to the side.
Mendes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Daddio sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mendes somewhat.

Daddio escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mendes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Daddio working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mendes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mendes wants to clinch up but Daddio keeps it at a distance.

Daddio shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mendes's guard.
Daddio sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mendes's guard.
Mendes looks like he's trying to stand up.

Daddio stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Decent striking displayed by Mendes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daddio rushes Mendes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Daddio jumps guard and drags Mendes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

and Daddio counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Mendes!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Daddio wants to finish this one by submission but Mendes is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Daddio.

Daddio is going olschool here, as he tries to force Mendes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mendes shrugs it off.

Daddio tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendes is retaining full guard.
Mendes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Don Daddio dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Daddio closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Daddio lands in his opponent's guard.
Don Daddio overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mendes wants to stand up but Daddio is controlling him.
Mendes is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Daddio looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mendes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Daddio takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Mendes tries to kick Daddio off but Daddio keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Daddio in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mendes tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Daddio!
