PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Devlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Devlin comes to the cage accompanied by sandstorm. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Devlin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Hill!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Hill as Devlin shoots in.
Hill fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Devlin looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Devlin is breathing heavily.
Devlin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Devlin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hill gets a takedown into half guard.

Hill stands up and beckons Devlin to join him on the feet.
Hill fails to land with a series of punches.
Devlin avoids a punch combination nicely.

Hill closes the distance and clinches.

Hill pulls Devlin into guard.

Devlin has gone for a leg lock! Hill slips out almost immediately though and dives into Devlin's guard.
Hill wants to stand but Devlin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Devlin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hill is one step ahead there.

Hill thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Devlin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Devlin avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Devlin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hill doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hill manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hill trying to control the position from guard on top but Devlin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hill pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Devlin is keeping the position for now.

Devlin throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hill uses it to pass to side control.

Hill throws a nice inside leg kick.
Devlin looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Devlin tries to clinch but Hill is having none of it.
Devlin doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Hill counters with a three punch combo that has Devlin backing up. Devlin nods at Hill to acknowledge the strikes.
Hill stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Jab, jab by Hill - just one landing.

Devlin fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hill fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hill looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hill lands a jab-cross combination.
Devlin wants to clinch.
Hill looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Devlin is fending him off so far but Hill persists. Nope, Devlin circles away and we're back to standing.

and Hill counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hill.
Hill is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Devlin has Hill pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hill manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Devlin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Hill fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hill throws a right and a left that Devlin avoids nicely.

Hill clinches.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Hill.
Devlin can't get the takedown.
Devlin tries for a takedown but Hill manages to get underhooks.

Hill breaks the clinch.
Hill lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Hill goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Hill keeps the fight on the outside.
An inside leg kick lands from Hill.
Hill smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hill throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Hill lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Devlin fails with a takedown attempt.
A solid body kick from Hill.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Hill dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hill throws a series of punches but Devlin avoids them all with ease.
Sam Hill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hill fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A combination from Hill does no damage.
Hill misses with a few strikes there.
Hill throws a series of strikes that have Devlin backpedaling.
Hill throws a right hand that Devlin ducks under and follows up with a left that Devlin also avoids with ease.
Devlin closes the distance and clinches up with Hill, looking for a takedown. Devlin pushes Hill against the cage but Hill circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hill throws a series of strikes that have Devlin backpedaling.
Hill throws a nice looking combination but Devlin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hill misses with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hill lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Devlin backs up against the cage.

Devlin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Devlin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Devlin forces the positional change into back control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Devlin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Hill knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Hill for a finish.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hill looking very determined here, making life difficult for Devlin.

Devlin is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Hill is defending well though. Devlin let's go of the attempt for now.

Devlin has got his arm under Hill's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Hill has spun round into Devlin's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Hill avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Devlin throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hill escapes and throws Devlin's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Devlin looking for a sweep but Hill has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Devlin can't escape the position.
Devlin is working hard here to advance position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Devlin gets back to half guard.
Devlin gets back to full guard.
Nick Devlin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hill stopping the sweep attempt from Devlin.

Hill avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hill wants to stand but Devlin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Devlin looking for a guillotine here but Hill defends easily.

Devlin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Devlin looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hill puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Devlin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hill's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hill's back!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hill tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Hill is desperately trying to improve his position but Devlin has a good base and remains in mount.

Devlin looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Devlin avoids the attempt from Hill to control.

Devlin is working for a guillotine from mount but Hill frees his head quite easily.

Devlin is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Hill is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Hill flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Devlin anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Hill and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Devlin slips an arm under Hill chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Devlin has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Devlin is squeezing on Hill like an anaconda would it's prey. Hill fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nick Devlin!
