The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slapper circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mendes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Slapper throws out the jab.

Slapper closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slapper lands in his opponent's guard.
Slapper loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Slapper trying to control but Mendes is working from the bottom.

Mendes uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Mendes shoots in but Slapper avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mendes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Slapper swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Slapper has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
