PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jenzi Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Levin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida comes to the cage accompanied by For Whom The Bell Tolls. Levin has chosen This is the sort of bear I am as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carl Levin!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Levin rushes Machida and presses him up against the cage.
Machida is looking to break free of the clinch but Levin has double underhooks.
Machida wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Machida has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Levin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Machida has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Machida tries to break the clinch but Levin is controlling the position.
Machida drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Levin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Levin is struggling to control the position.
Machida jumps guard but Levin stands there with Machida around his waist. Machida gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Machida clinches but Levin breaks the clinch

and Levin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Levin.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Levin is looking to stand up but Machida won't let him.
Machida is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Levin slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Machida looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Machida is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Levin is controlling him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Machida working for a triangle but Levin defends it easily.
Levin looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Machida circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jenzi Machida is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Levin wants to clinch.
Jenzi Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Levin moves into the clinch successfully.

Machida tries to score a body lock takedown but Levin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Machida is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Machida wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Levin has him pressed against the cage.

Levin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Machida has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Levin has managed to get both his arms back between Machida's legs - danger averted.
Machida controls Levin momentarily but Levin frees himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Machida pulls Levin in close to his closed guard and prevents Levin from doing any damage or advancing position.

Levin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Levin gets to his feet. Machida looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Levin pushes Machida up against the cage in a clinch.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Machida tries for a takedown. No joy.
Levin scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Machida is trying to break the clinch but Levin is controlling him.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Carl Levin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Levin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Machida's efforts to push away.

Machida is trying to force a seperation but Levin has the dominant position.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Levin takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Levin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Machida paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Well Levin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
