Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tarkan Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Balis!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Balis on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Balis is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.

Jones forces Balis back against the cage and clinches.
Balis has Jones pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Jones manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Jones.
Jones is trying to force a seperation but Balis has the dominant position.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Balis misses with an elbow strike.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jonesis looking to pass into half guard but Balis pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Balis is in guard.

Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Balis's guard.

Jones stands up over Balis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Jones drops back, looking for a kneebar! Balis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Balis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Balis!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Balis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Balis decides to stand back up.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Balis sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Balis is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Jones's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones is in a horrible position here. Balis smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Jones is squirming around, avoiding Balis's attempts to control the action.
John Balis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jones really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Tarkan Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Balis lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tarkan Jones.
Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
