Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jukka Peltonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Kostroff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peltonen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Kotiteollisuus - Kuolemajärvi. Alex Kostroff will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jukka Peltonen!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Kostroff!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kostroff throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Peltonen tries to clinch but Kostroff moves out of range.
Peltonen fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kostroff stuffs the takedown.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Peltonen.
Kostroff is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Peltonen is controlling him well.
Peltonen trying to control the position but Kostroff is working away.
Kostroff is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Peltonen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Peltonen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kostroff, who protects the arm well.

Kostroff prevents Peltonen from improving position.
Kostroff is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Peltonen has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Peltonen has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Peltonen wants to finish this one by submission but Kostroff is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Peltonen.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Peltonen is breathing heavily.
Kostroff is trying to stand up.
Peltonen looking to control but Kostroff is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kostroff really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Peltonen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kostroff is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Kostroff is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Peltonen content just to control the position here.
Kostroff wants to use the ropes to get back to his feet here.
Peltonen fails to take his opponent's back.

Peltonen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kostroff manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kostroff tries to clinch up

and Peltonen counters with a shoot takedown. Kostroff fights it but they end up in guard.
Peltonen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kostroff is keeping the position for now.
Kostroff wants to stand up but Peltonen is controlling him.
Peltonen trying to control the position from guard on top but Kostroff is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kostroff is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kostroff wriggles free and stands up.
A combination from Kostroff does no damage.
Kostroff lands with a straight right. Peltonen didn't see that one coming.

Peltonen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kostroff manages to avoid it.
Peltonen fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jukka Peltonen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kostroff misses with an uppercut

and Peltonen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kostroff's guard now.
Peltonen trying to control but Kostroff is working from the bottom.
Peltonen stays in close to Kostroff's body and controls the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Peltonen passes Kostroff's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Peltonen is tying to control. Kostroff wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Peltonen is looking for a kimura but Kostroff is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Peltonen to get the leverage.

Peltonen wants to work for an arm triangle but Kostroff is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Peltonen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kostroff blocking the ground and pound attempt from Peltonen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Peltonen avoids a punch combination nicely.
Peltonen is looking to clinch but Kostroff is avoiding it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Peltonen.
Peltonen slips a jab and a cross from Kostroff.
Peltonen shoots in but Kostroff avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kostroff misses with a hook

and Peltonen counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Peltonen trying to control but Kostroff is working from the bottom.
Peltonen is looking to work some ground and pound but Kostroff has wrist control.
Peltonen advances position into side control!

Peltonen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Peltonen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Peltonen prevents Kostroff from escaping the position.

Peltonen is looking to take a break and control but Kostroff is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Peltonen scoring with punches and elbows.
Peltonen advances to mount.
Peltonen lands with some strikes.
Peltonen scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Peltonen won't let Kostroff get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

and Peltonen counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kostroff!

Peltonen wants to take Kostroff's back here but Kostroff is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Kostroff is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Peltonen has taken his back!

Peltonen is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Kostroff covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Kostroff is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet.
Kostroff throws a series of punches but Peltonen moves out of range.
Jukka Peltonen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Kostroff moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Kostroff lands with an overhand left.
Kostroff clinches but Peltonen breaks the clinch
and Peltonen counters with a one-two to the body.
Peltonen fails with a takedown attempt.

Peltonen working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Kostroff looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Peltonen! Submission of the night perhaps?
