The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simpleton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simpleton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Simpleton stands and throws Merengue's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Merengue is fighting off a takedown attempt but Simpleton is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Merengue to the mat. Merengue regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Merengue feints and then cracks Simpleton's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Simpleton down.

Simpleton takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Merengue will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Merengue dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Simpleton. That did some damage!
Merengue lands with a kick to the temple. Simpleton shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Merengue shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Merengue feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Simpleton's calf.
