PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Redman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Stackhouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redman comes to the cage accompanied by Sympathy for the Devil. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny Redman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Stackhouse!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stackhouse gets a takedown into half guard.
Redman is pressing down on Stackhouse's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Redman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stackhouse's guard.
Stackhouse wants to control the position but Redman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Redman winds up and cracks Stackhouse with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Redman thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Redman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stackhouse is looking to improve his position.
Redman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Stackhouse really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Redman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stackhouse blocking the ground and pound attempt from Redman.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stackhouse moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Redman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Redman throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stackhouse works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Redman has his takedown stuffed

and Stackhouse counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Redman makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Redman.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Redman is on top in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stackhouse tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Redman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Redman lands a couple of digs.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Redman's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Stackhouse wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Redman is now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Stackhouse has hold of Redman's hands but Redman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Stackhouse wants to get back to full guard but Redman has passed into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Redman will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Stackhouse tries for a takedown but Redman circles away easily

and Redman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Stackhouse is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Redman dives into side control.
Redman lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Stackhouse down.
Stackhouse looks to move to half guard but instead Redman has passed into mount! Damn!
Redman lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Redman is landing with some decent strikes but Stackhouse is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Stackhouse can do anything to dispel that myth.

Redman unloading with bombs!

Redman is going olschool here, as he tries to force Stackhouse to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stackhouse shrugs it off.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Redman has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Stackhouse is forced to tap!
