PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vince Topper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andre Winner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of London, Vince Topper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Andre Winner!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Winner misses with a few strikes there.
Winner tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Winner checks the leg kick.
Winner misses with an uppercut. Topper saw that one coming.

Topper feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Winner can do anything to dispel that myth.
Winner wants to sweep but no luck.

Winner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Topper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Topper wants to stand but Winner is controlling his posture from full guard.
Topper will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Topper is in close to Winner's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Topper postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Topper drops back looking for a leg! Winner is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Winner manages to kick Topper off! Topper jumps back into Winner's guard.

Winner looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Topper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Topper walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Topper with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Winner to score with a decent uppercut.
A jab lands there for Winner.
Andre Winner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Winner stuns Topper with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Topper closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Winner to the mat! Winner manages to get full guard.

Winner tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Winner is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Winner moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Winner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Topper scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Winner has his hands clasped together around Topper's back. He's all about the action.
Topper wants to control but Winner is keeping him busy.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Topper closes the distance and clinches up with Winner, looking for a takedown. Topper pushes Winner against the cage but Winner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Winner throws a right hand that Topper ducks under and follows up with a left that Topper also avoids with ease.
Winner throws a series of strikes that have Topper backpedaling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vince Topper will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Andre Winner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Topper keeps the fight on the outside.
Topper looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A combination from Winner does no damage.
Winner tries to clinch but Topper moves out of range.
Topper gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Topper is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Winner pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Winner lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Topper backwards.
Winner stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Winner lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Topper.
Topper tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vince Topper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Winner closes the distance but Topper moves to the side
and Topper makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Winner has Topper pressed against the cage, preventing Topper from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Topper is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Topper drops down looking for an ankle pick but Winner pulls his leg out and moves away.
Winner wants to clinch up but Topper keeps it at a distance.
Topper slips a jab and a cross from Winner.
Winner goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Winner cracks a nice hook into Topper's ribs.

Winner takes the fight into the clinch.

Winner breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Topper gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Winner tries to clinch up but Topper circles away and keeps his distance.
Winner throws a combination. Topper tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Topper on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.


Topper is rocked!

Winner darts in and clinches Topper up against the cage.

Topper pulls guard effortlessly.
Winner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Topper is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Winner defends well.

Winner wants to stand but Topper has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Topper looking for subs off his back but Winner has passed one foot through into half guard.

Winner is looking for a kimura but Topper is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Winner to get the leverage.

Winner is keen to just control but Topper is a slippery customer.
Winner not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Winner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Winner lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Winner tries to stall but Topper uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Topper jumps guard but Winner stands there with Topper around his waist. Topper gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Topper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Winner fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Winner lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

A left lands for Winner.
Winner throws a left and a right that both miss
and Topper counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Winner is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Topper lands with an uppercut that bounces Winner off the cage and back into rage.
Winner scores with a one two! Topper had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Oh Topper is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Winner lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Winner cracks Topper with a nice body shot.
Topper is trying to drag Winner to the mat but Winner just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Winner slows down the pace here.
Winner pushes Topper back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Winner's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Winner lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Topper or not.

Winner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Topper is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Winner connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Topper momentarily.

Winner scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Topper is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Winner fails to land with a series of punches.

Winner is looking to control Topper's arms but Topper gets an underhook and turns him. Now Winner has his back to the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fight stays on the outside here - Winner looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Andre Winner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Winner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
