The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kai.

Kai is trying to get an arm triangle but Kernspecht is defending well.
Kai is looking to take a break and control but Kernspecht is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kernspecht tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kai tries to advance to mount but can't.
Kernspecht is looking for a sweep.
Kai working away.
Kernspecht really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kernspecht tries to improve position but can't.
Kernspecht tries to escape but Kai is in control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kernspecht tries for a takedown but Kai circles away easily

and Kai counters with a shoot takedown. Kernspecht fights it but they end up in guard.
Kai thows a big elbow that misses.

Kai wants to control from the top but Kernspecht keeps moving.
Kai passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Kernspecht pushes Kai away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kai gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Kernspecht looks gassed!

Kai tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kai is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kernspecht is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kernspecht is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Kernspecht tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kai wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Kai is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Kernspecht looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kai gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Kernspecht is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kai lets go of the hold and Kernspecht can pop his arm back in it's socket.
