PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ace Mikkey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and shane Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mikkey kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Trooper. Mikkey is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. shane Johnson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Johnson checks a leg kick.
Mikkey is breathing heavily.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Johnson in particular looking to stall.
I looks like Johnson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Johnson gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Mikkey with a poor takedown

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control.

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Johnson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Johnson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Mikkey gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mikkey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mikkey has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Johnson gets to his feet. Mikkey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mikkey is trying to control Johnson's posture but Johnson avoids it.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Johnson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mikkey to his feet.

Johnson feints and as Mikkey raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mikkey controls Johnson momentarily but Johnson frees himself.
Mikkey wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it.

Mikkey had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Johnson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Mikkey Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Johnson's back instead.

so Johnson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mikkey manages to get himself to full guard.

Mikkey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Well Johnson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
