PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Greg Groove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slade Mortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mortis has chosen Show me how to live as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg Groove!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Slade Mortis!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mortis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Groove keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mortis is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Groove is trying to get back to full guard.
Mortis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Groove scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mortis manages to mount him!
Mortis trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Groove taking shots to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mortis controlling from mount.
Mortis lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Groove is trying desperately to improve position.
Mortis unloading with bombs!
Groove tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Mortis working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Groove is wriggling around trying to escape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Groove is working hard here to advance position.
Groove trying desperately to get to his feet.
Groove working to try and regain half guard.
Mortis controlling the position easily from mount.
Mortis scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Groove?
Groove is breathing heavily.
Mortis working Groove over with strikes here.

Mortis wants to finish this one by submission but Groove is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mortis.
Groove really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Groove tries to lock up and control but Mortis gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Mortis cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Groove is looking to get to half guard.
Mortis working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Mortis trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Mortis looking to control and managing it successfully.
Groove tries to hold on but Mortis postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mortis in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Mortis lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mortis can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Groove is looking to escape.
A nice elbow there by Mortis.
Mortis tries to control but Groove wriggling away.
Groove is trying desperately to improve position.
Mortis controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slade Mortis dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mortis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Groove's waist but Groove gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mortis off to one side.
Mortis takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Mortis tries to clinch up but Groove circles away and keeps his distance.
Mortis tries to bum rush Groove with a series of wild strikes but Groove uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Groove shoots and misses

and Mortis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mortis.
Mortis is working for takedown but Groove is calmly controlling the position for now.

Groove breaks the clinch.
Groove keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Groove.

Mortis drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mortis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Groove's guard.
Groove can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mortis controls the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Mortis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mortis drives through with a takedown into guard.

Groove is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mortis wants to control from the top but Groove keeps moving.
Groove is trying to keep Mortis in close.
Groove throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Groove wants to stand but Mortis is controlling the position.
Groove trying to keep a closed guard but Mortis is proving a slippery customer.

Groove looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mortis trying to control the position from guard on top but Groove is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Groove darts in trying to clinch

and Mortis counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Mortis.
Mortis trying to control but Groove is working from the bottom.
Groove not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Groove is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Groove looking for a guillotine here but Mortis defends easily.
Mortis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Groove swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mortis content to stall in guard here.
Mortis trying to control the position from guard on top but Groove is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Groove is trying to control the position but Mortis postures up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Groove closes the distance looking to clinch

and Mortis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Groove's guard.
Mortis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mortis won't allow Groove to sweep him here.
Groove lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mortis!

Mortis is squirming around, avoiding Groove's attempts to control the action.
Mortis tries to lock up and control but Groove gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Groove goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mortis turns into him and now he's in Groove's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slade Mortis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Groove's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Groove lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Groove missing with knees to the body.
Groove is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mortis pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Mortis tries a knee to the head but Groove blocks it.
Mortis is trying to break free.
Groove prevents Mortis from breaking the clinch.
Groove goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mortis prevents it.
Groove taking a breather.
Groove tries to pull guard but Mortis won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Greg Groove. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mortis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Groove drags the fight down to the ground.
Mortis is looking to work some ground and pound but Groove has wrist control.

Groove throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Groove is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mortis is controlling him.

Groove wriggles free and stands up.
Groove throws a head kick but Mortis moves out of range.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mortis circles away from the clinch attempt

and Mortis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Groove won't be happy with that.
Groove struggling a bit here.

Mortis decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Groove thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Mortis if he has to take too many more of those.
Groove throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Mortis shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Mortis wants to control from the top but Groove keeps moving.
Mortis passes into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mortis in particular looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mortis lands with a punch from half guard.

Mortis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Groove is just riding it out for now. Mortis eventually gives up the hold.

Groove looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Mortis is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Groove has managed to free his arm - good work.

Slade Mortis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mortis winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
