PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Henry Katama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and SergiO Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Katama comes into the arena with Fuel blaring out of the sound system. Ortiz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Face the pain - Steem. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Henry Katama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, SergiO Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Thiago Cunha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katama shoots for a takedown but Ortiz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Katama tries to clinch but Ortiz is having none of it.
Ortiz avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Ortiz shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Katama is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Katama missing with punches from the bottom.

Katama is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ortiz pulls his head out easily.
Katama has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ortiz is working away from the top position though.
Ortiz throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Katama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Katama is looking for a sweep. Ortiz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ortiz thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Katama's head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Katama ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ortiz moves away.

Ortiz trying to control but Katama is working from the bottom.
Ortiz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Katama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Katama is breathing heavily.
Katama bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ortiz's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ortiz holds on and takes a little breather.
Katama trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ortiz striking off his back but it's not causing Katama any problems.

Ortiz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Katama defends well.

Katama misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Katama is looking to take a break and control but Ortiz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Ortiz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiz can do anything to dispel that myth.

Katama misses with a takedown

so Ortiz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ortiz stands up over Katama, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Katama is trying to control the position but Ortiz postures up.
Ortiz working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Katama's head.
Katama looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ortiz is one step ahead there.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ortiz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Katama escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ortiz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ortiz tries to clinch there but Katama circles away.

Katama gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ortiz decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ortiz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Katama is looking to regain half guard here but Ortiz keeps moving and retains side control.

Ortiz stands up and beckons Katama to his feet.

and Ortiz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Katama won't be happy with that.
Katama is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Katama looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ortiz not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Well Ortiz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
