Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Z (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donnie James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Smokestack Lighting - Howlin' Wolf as his entrance music. James has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Z!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Donnie James!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Z shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Z digs a good body shot into James's ribs.
James looks gassed!
James leaves Z with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Z shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Z looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Z wants to free his trapped foot but James is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Z decides to stand up.
Z moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! James goes down! Can Z finish him!?


James is rocked!
James tries to land a sweep but no joy.
James is still in real trouble! Can Z finish him?
Z is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
James seems to have recovered his senses.

James is working an open guard so Z takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Z.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Z. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Z cracks James with a big right hand and James goes down!

Z's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Z gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Z changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Z scores with a nice right hand.
Z dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Z's head and hops out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Z.

Z shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.
Z lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as James backs up against the cage.
James throws a left and a right that both miss
and Z counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Z lands a right hook to the body.
Z shoots in and drives through. James sprawls well.
James goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Z lands a jab-cross combination.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Z is defended easily by James.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James lands with a kick to the temple. Z shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Z shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
James looks like he's trying to stand up.
James wants to improve his position but Z is controlling well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.
Z is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Z seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down James for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jay Z just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
James leaves Z with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Z lands with a straight right. James didn't see that one coming.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Z dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


James tries to move into range but Z moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Z lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends James sprawling to the canvas. Z follows him down, looking for the kill. Can James hang on?

Z throwing shots but James is blocking nicely.

Z decides to stand and escape the position.
Z connects with a stiff jab that staggers James - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jay Z!
