Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rolls Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie's entrance music is Bleed. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rolls Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice combination there by McCarthy.


It looks like Rolls Gracie has been cut.
McCarthy throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
McCarthy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
McCarthy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McCarthy works over Gracie's head and body with a nice combination.
McCarthy throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.

McCarthy clinches up against the cage.
McCarthy gets underhooks to prevent Gracie's takedown attempt.

McCarthy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

McCarthy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gracie to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McCarthy sees it coming and defends easily.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McCarthy doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

McCarthy tries to roll over but Gracie keeps him under control.
McCarthy wants to get back to his feet.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but McCarthy defends the submission attempt.
Gracie trying to advance position but McCarthy counters by regaining guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but McCarthy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Gracie is really struggling to control McCarthy but he's trying to hold on to the position.
McCarthy controls Gracie momentarily but Gracie frees himself.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if McCarthy can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gracie pushes down on McCarthy's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Gracie is thwarting McCarthy's attempts to control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McCarthy scores with a body shot.
McCarthy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gracie.
McCarthy thows a body shot but no joy.
McCarthy looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McCarthy lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Gracie moves out of range as McCarthy strikes.
McCarthy misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming.
Gracie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from McCarthy.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rolls Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.
Gracie avoids the body shot from McCarthy.
McCarthy gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gracie counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for McCarthy!

Gracie looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
McCarthy working to try and regain half guard.

Gracie working for a submission but McCarthy is keeping him at bay.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gracie looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
McCarthy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gracie wants to finish this one by submission but McCarthy is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gracie.
McCarthy is looking to improve his position but Gracie isn't that keen on the idea.

Gracie is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, McCarthy has managed to escape the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McCarthy tries to lock up and control but Gracie gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McCarthy keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rolls Gracie dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Rolls Gracie's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gracie shoots for a takedown but McCarthy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
McCarthy throws a right hand that Gracie ducks under and follows up with a left that Gracie also avoids with ease.
Gracie throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McCarthy's waist but McCarthy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gracie off to one side.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as McCarthy sprawls well. McCarthy wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rolls Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McCarthy stuffs the takedown.
Gracie takes a shot right to the bread basket.
McCarthy lands a with a good body shot.
McCarthy will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
McCarthy misses with a body kick.
McCarthy misses with a head kick.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
McCarthy can't escape the position.
McCarthy's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
McCarthy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
McCarthy really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Gracie trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Rolls Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McCarthy is trying to escape the mount.
McCarthy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Gracie working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. McCarthy looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Gracie! Submission of the night perhaps?
