PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Quid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Conroy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quid comes to the cage accompanied by Cock Sparrer - England Belongs To Me. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Quid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Victor Conroy!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Conroy closes the distance and clinches up with Quid, looking for a takedown. Conroy pushes Quid against the cage but Quid circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Quid changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Conroy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Quid decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Quid misses the shot to the body.
Conroy blocks a jab.
Conroy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Quid counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Conroy's guard now.

Quid stands up and waves to Conroy to follow him.

Quid shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Conroy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Conroy working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Quid has passed into half guard!

Quid stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Conroy to get to his feet.
Conroy misses with a takedown
and Quid counters with a right hand to the body.
Johnny Quid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Conroy.
Conroy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Quid throws out the jab.
Conroy takes one to the side of the head.

Conroy throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Quid was covering up waiting for the punch and Conroy finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Quid has a closed guard, preventing Conroy from standing up.
Quid keeping moving, preventing Conroy from controlling successfully.

Quid kicks Conroy off and gets to his feet.
Conroy takes a swing at Quid's ribcage but misses.
Conroy takes a jab right on the kisser.

Quid shoots in and bounces Conroy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Conroy looks gassed!
Quid has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Conroy is proving hard to escape from.

Conroy is working an open guard so Quid takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Quid looks to land a left hand but Conroy moved out of range nicely.
Quid jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Conroy darts in trying to clinch

so Quid counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Quid trying to stand up but can't free himself from Conroy's guard.
Quid missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Conroy is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Conroy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Quid postures up.

Conroy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Quid is aware though and is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Conroy has an active guard here but Quid has managed to pass into half guard.

Quid is working for a kimura but Conroy is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Conroy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Quid counters with a nice double leg into side control. Conroy won't be happy with that.
Conroy is trying to improve his position.
Conroy looks to move to half guard but instead Quid has passed into mount! Damn!
Conroy is looking to get to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Quid punishing his opponent with strikes.
Conroy is breathing heavily.
Conroy tries to reverse the position but Quid maintains control.

Quid is going olschool here, as he tries to force Conroy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Conroy shrugs it off.
The referee warns Conroy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Quid looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
A nice elbow there by Quid.

Quid gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Conroy shoots and misses

and Quid counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Quid decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Quid scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Quid throws a right and a left that both miss.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Conroy fails with the takedown

and Quid counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Conroy's guard now.
Johnny Quid has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Conroy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Quid drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Quid jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Quid stands up and waves to Conroy to follow him.
Quid tests Conroy's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Quid thows a left - swing and a miss!

Quid throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Quid shoots in and bounces Conroy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Quid is in close to Conroy's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Conroy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Quid defends well.
Quid in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Quid stands up from Conroy's guard - Quid perhaps looking for a knockout.
Quid misses with a wild combination.
Conroy doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Quid counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Conroy is looking to control Quid's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Conroy avoid being mounted?

Quid escapes and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Quid counters with a right hand to the body.
Quid misses with a hook to the body
and Conroy counters with a low kick, right behind Quid 's knee.
Quid works Conroy's body with a nice hook.
A left lands for Quid.
Conroy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Quid throws a nice looking combination but Conroy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Quid ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Conroy moves away.
Conroy tries for a takedown but Quid circles away easily

and Quid counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Conroy's guard now.

Quid is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Quid stands and steps away. Conroy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Conroy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling Quid to counter with a crisp jab.
Quid lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Conroy at a distance.

Quid uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Quid feints and as Conroy raises his hands in defense, Quid changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Quid is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Conroy working for a triangle but Quid defends it easily.

Quid stands up and waves to Conroy to follow him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quid lands a nice shot to the body.

Quid scores a takedown into full mount!
Johnny Quid is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Quid working for a submission but Conroy is keeping him at bay.
Conroy wants to control but Quid is having none of it.
Quid is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Conroy can do to turn this around?

Quid swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Conroy is now in Quid's guard. A big mistake from Quid there, giving up the dominant position!
Conroy throws a strike but Quid rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Conroy is working an open guard so Quid takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Conroy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Quid counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Conroy thinking.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Quid showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Quid has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
