PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ness Webster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie Nose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ness Webster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ronnie Nose!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nose fails to land the takedown.
Webster stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Webster wants it to stay on the feet.
Webster connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
A head kick misses from Webster.
Webster lands with a slapping head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Webster attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Nose throws a body punch but Webster moves out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Webster.
Webster throws a low kick, looking for Nose's leg but Nose calmly moves out of range.
Ness Webster seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Webster misses with a leg kick.
Nose lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Webster gets caught flat footed, as Nose shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Webster working for a triangle but Nose defends it easily.

Webster looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Nose passes into half guard.
Nice strikes from Nose there.
Webster gets back to full guard.

Webster looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Webster bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nose's guard.
Nose is trying to keep Webster in close.
Nose is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Webster slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nose is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Webster's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Webster is trying to control. Nose wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Webster sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Nose defending well though.

Webster is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Webster is thwarting Nose's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ness Webster will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A nice inside leg kick there by Webster. That's going to slow Nose down.
Nose missing with a left hand there. Webster was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Webster finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Webster misses with a head kick.
Nose fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Webster manages to avoid it.
Webster shoots and misses
and Nose counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Webster motions for Nose to come forward. Webster throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Webster has his takedown stuffed

so Nose counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Nose passes Webster's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Webster looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Webster is looking for a sweep. Nose is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Nose is trying to control the action in half guard but Webster is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Webster looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Nose wants to take a breather but Webster is having none of it.
Webster tries to roll over but Nose keeps him under control.
Webster wants to sweep but Nose has passed to side control!
Webster prevents Nose from improving position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Webster throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Ness Webster is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nose misses with an uppercut.
Webster lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Webster thumps Nose with a low kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronnie Nose showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Webster uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nose.
A slow jab from Nose misses its intended target.
Webster misses with a low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A solid leg kick lands there for Webster.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nose throws a nice looking combination but Webster bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nose throws an overhand right that lands on Webster's shoulder, as Webster tries to avoid the shot.
Webster scores with a head kick.

Nose closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Nose working away.
Nose in side control lands a decent elbow.
Nose landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Webster is looking to reverse the position.
Webster is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nose off and has taken his back!

Webster is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Nose is defending well though. Webster let's go of the attempt for now.
Nose covering up well under a barage of strikes.

Nose rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Webster is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Nose has managed to free his arm - good work.
Nose misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Nose is looking for a sweep. Webster is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Webster seems to be working for a kimura but Nose defends the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nose moves into full guard.

Webster drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Nose dives on top into guard.
Webster working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nose.
Nose keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Webster's head.
Webster looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nose is working Webster over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Ronnie Nose has got the better of the ground game so far.
Nose in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Webster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nose doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nose manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Webster is trying to control the position but Nose postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ness Webster.
I think Webster has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
