Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Parker John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sam Hirons!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hirons throws a series of punches but John avoids them all with ease.
John misses with a hook. Hirons ducked under it nicely.
John shoots in and drives through. Hirons sprawls well.
Hirons will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

John closes the distance and clinches.
Hirons is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
John tries to pull guard but Hirons won't allow it.

Hirons breaks the clinch.
Hirons scores with a one two! John had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


It looks like Parker John has been cut.
Hirons throws a right and a left that John avoids nicely.
Hirons throws a nice looking combination but John bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hirons throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Hirons lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but John circles away quickly and effectively.

John shoots in for a takedown but Hirons shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. John lands a nice short elbow.

John has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

John wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hirons keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
John shoots in for a takedown but Hirons shows good takedown defense.

Hirons ducks right into an uppercut from John.
Sam Hirons seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hirons throws a right and a left that John avoids nicely.
Hirons blocks a head kick by John.
Hirons misses with a combination

and John holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

John pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hirons throws a nice looking combination but John bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

John shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hirons's guard.
Hirons looking for a sweep. Not yet Hirons, not yet.
John stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hirons swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hirons keeping moving, preventing John from controlling successfully.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hirons is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

John forces Hirons back against the cage and clinches.
John lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

and John counters by clinching up.

John breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

John is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Hirons wants to break free but John has control.
John jumps guard but Hirons stands there with John around his waist. John gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

John breaks from the clinch.
Hirons swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hirons takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
John lands a jab to the nose.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Parker John dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Parker John's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!

Hirons working hard to break the clinch.
Hirons can't break the clinch.
John tries to stall but Hirons uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Hirons throws a head punch that misses.
Hirons is trying to break the clinch but John has him pressed against the cage.
Hirons wants to break free but John has control.

John breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hirons rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but John moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

John gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

John escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hirons throws a combination but it was largely blocked by John.
John throws a body punch but Hirons moves out of range.
Hirons displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from John.
Hirons throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

John shoots in looking for a takedown. Hirons tries to sprawl out of it but John keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hirons manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

John has taken the fight to the clinch.

John looking for a guillotine here but Hirons defends easily.
Hirons must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

John throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hirons missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hirons really doesn't want to stay on the ground with John. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hirons avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

John had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Hirons is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. John Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Hirons's back instead.
I really don't envy Hirons right now.
Hirons is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
John has good solid back control here.
Hirons is covering up but some of the strikes from John are getting through and doing damage.

Hirons holding both John 's hands and preventing any damage.
John scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Hirons is looking for a way out.

John is looking to control Hirons but Hirons is wriggling around and keeping busy.
John lands a shot to the body.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hirons can't escape the position.

John is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Hirons has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but John has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Hirons taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. John doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Parker John!
