Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Favalas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Favalas has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Favalas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Gracie tries to score with a low kick but Favalas moves his leg out of the way.
Favalas fails to land with a series of punches.
Favalas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Favalas looks to land a combination but Gracie avoids it well.
Favalas swinging wilding here.
Gracie with a jab.
Gracie misses with a few strikes there.
Favalas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gracie lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Favalas backs up against the cage.

Gracie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Favalas wants to get back to his feet.
Favalas keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Favalas reverses the position - he's now on top in Gracie's guard.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Favalas passes into half guard.
Gracie is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.

Favalas is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Favalas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Favalas throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Favalas scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Favalas misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming.
Gracie finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Favalas is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Favalas circles away and we're back to standing.
Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Favalas avoids it really well and circles away.
No joy there for Gracie, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Favalas falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gracie counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gracie.

Gracie scoring with punches to the head and body.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie stops Favalas from standing up.
Gracie passes Favalas's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gracie works his way into full mount!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Favalas is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie cracks Favalas with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Gracie jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Favalas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Favalas and Gracie has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Gracie looks gassed!

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Favalas has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rickson Gracie dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


An inside leg kick from Gracie misses.
Favalas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Favalas throws a combination that misses
enabling Gracie to counter with a crisp jab.
No joy there for Favalas, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Favalas throws a left and a right that both miss

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Favalas manages to escape and get back to his feet.
A nice combination there by Favalas.
Left hook, right uppercut from Gracie.

Favalas rushes Gracie and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gracie wants a takedown but no success here.
Gracie goes for a takedown attempt but Favalas pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Favalas throws a combination that misses
and Gracie counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Favalas throws the left hand but Gracie avoids the punch easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie looks to land a combination. Favalas sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Thiago Favalas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Favalas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Favalas misses with a combination

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown. Favalas fights it but they end up in guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Gracie's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Favalas throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Favalas is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him.

Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Favalas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gracie won't allow Favalas to get back to his feet.
Gracie passes into half guard.
Ground and pound from Gracie.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Favalas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Favalas trying to control from the bottom.

Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Favalas's head.
Gracie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Favalas!
Favalas wants to try and get back to his feet.
Gracie with shots to the head and body - Favalas looks very uncomfortable down there.


It looks like Thiago Favalas has been cut.

Favalas really wants to buck Gracie off and get back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gracie lands a big elbow.
Gracie looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Rickson Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Thiago Favalas's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Gracie throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Favalas.
Favalas falls off balance throwing a combination

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control.
Gracie works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Rickson Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.
Favalas prevents Gracie from moving into mount.
Favalas is pushing Gracie's head away, looking to escape. Gracie manages to hold on to the position though.
Gracie moves into full mount!
Favalas wants to get back to his feet.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Gracie in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Favalas tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.

Thiago Favalas's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee warns Favalas that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Thiago Favalas's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Rickson Gracie!
