PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Valentin Kara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and JF Wildfire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Valentin Kara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, JF Wildfire!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kara.
Kara misses with a low kick.
Kara moves in looking to clinch but Wildfire pushes him off.
Wildfire just misses with a punch to the body.
Wildfire throws a combination. Kara tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Kara tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wildfire paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Wildfire changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kara looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kara gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Wildfire wants to stand up but Kara has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Wildfire wants to free his trapped foot but Kara is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Wildfire is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kara tries to kick Wildfire off but Wildfire keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wildfire tries to pass to full mount but Kara defends it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kara manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Wildfire won't allow Kara to sweep him here.
Wildfire wants to get up but he can't break Kara's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Kara pulls Wildfire in close to prevent any damage.
Kara looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Kara seems keen to control Wildfire's posture.
Kara might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Wildfire trying to control but Kara is working from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kara is trying to control the position but Wildfire postures up.
Kara tries to strike from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wildfire throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kara's waist but Kara gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wildfire off to one side.

Kara closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kara decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Wildfire looks gassed!
Kara dodges the punch combination from Wildfire.
Wildfire throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wildfire misses with a two punch combination.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wildfire looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Wildfire is defended easily by Kara.

Kara darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Kara takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kara prevents Wildfire from improving his position.

Wildfire on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valentin Kara dominated that round.

Kara throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kara works Wildfire's body with a nice hook.
Wildfire has his takedown stuffed

and Kara counters with a single leg into guard. Wildfire didn't expect that.
Kara stays in close to Wildfire's body and controls the position.
Wildfire is breathing heavily.

Kara gets to his feet - Wildfire follows without any prompting.

That's one minute gone in the round.
No luck for Wildfire with that takedown attempt.

Kara closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kara content to control rather than advance.
Wildfire really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kara. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wildfire trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Kara manages to pass to mount!
Kara content just to control the position here.

Kara with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Wildfire tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kara stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Kara throws a wild body kick that Wildfire sees coming a mile off.
Kara thows a body shot but no joy.
Wildfire fails with an attempt to clinch.
Wildfire circles away from the clinch attempt
and Wildfire counters with an inside leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kara shoots in and bounces Wildfire off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Wildfire can't keep his opponent in guard - Kara advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Kara content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kara decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Kara decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kara not doing much here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kara seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wildfire for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Valentin Kara dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Kara decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Valentin Kara just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Wildfire is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Kara shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kara was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wildfire is trying desperately to improve position.

Kara is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kara misses with a takedown attempt - Wildfire sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kara circles away from the clinch attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kara.
Wildfire struggling a bit here.
Wildfire is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here.

Kara is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Wildfire looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kara gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Wildfire is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kara lets go of the hold and Wildfire can pop his arm back in it's socket.
