PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Emils Heartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Astley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heartman comes to the cage accompanied by Bandoleros. Astley is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Never Gonna Give You Up Hip-Hop Beat. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Heartman clinches with his opponent.
Astley wants to break the clinch but can't.
Heartman wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Heartman stalling in the clinch but Astley improves position.
Astley tries for a takedown but Heartman manages to get underhooks.

Astley jumps guard.
Heartman wants to stand and escape but instead Astley has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Astley stands and throws Heartman's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Astley moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Astley decides to stand back up.
Heartman misses with an attempted mid kick.
Heartman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Astley's waist but Astley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Heartman off to one side.
Heartman is breathing heavily.
Heartman misses with an attempted mid kick.
Emils Heartman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Heartman misses with the combination.
Heartman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Heartman fails in his attempt to clinch.
Astley fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Heartman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Heartman throws a wild body kick that Astley sees coming a mile off.
Astley moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Astley gets a takedown into half guard.
Astley looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Heartman is looking to improve his position.
Astley content to control rather than advance.
Heartman wants to improve his position but Astley is controlling well.

Astley stands up out of the half guard.
Heartman punishes Astley's body with a nice straight punch.
Astley fails with an attempt to clinch.
Astley fails with the takedown
and Heartman counters with a left and a right that stings Astley.
Emils Heartman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Astley.
Heartman tries a head kick but it misses.
Astley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Heartman circles away.

and Astley counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Astley is taking a breather. Heartman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Astley lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Heartman on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Heartman tries to get out of the position.

Well, if Astley is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Heartman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Astley throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Heartman is looking to escape.
Heartman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Astley takes one to the side of the head.
Heartman cracks Astley with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Heartman has Astley up against the cage in a clinch.
Astley is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Heartman is keeping busy.

Heartman manages to break the clinch.
Heartman lands a head kick. Astley smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Heartman misses with a low kick as Astley jumps back.
Astley moves out of range of the body kick from Heartman.
Heartman misses with an attempted mid kick.

Astley shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Heartman tries to reverse the position but Astley maintains control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Astley lands a nice shot to the head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Astley gets a takedown into half guard.
Astley slips a nice elbow through Heartman's hands, connecting with Heartman's forehead.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Astley in particular looking to stall.

Astley stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Heartman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Astley gets the takedown into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Astley just content to control the position.

Heartman pushes Astley away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Astley gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Astley works to advance to full mount. Heartman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Heartman tries to hold on but Astley pushes him away.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Astley cracks Heartman with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Heartman is squirming around, avoiding Astley's attempts to control the action.
Heartman is looking to improve his position but Astley isn't that keen on the idea.
Heartman's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Astley has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Heartman's face.
Heartman can't escape the position.
Astley looking to control but Heartman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Heartman is wriggling around trying to escape.
Astley lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Heartman hang on?

Rick Astley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Heartman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Astley counters with a head kick. That will keep Heartman thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Astley decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Heartman's guard.
Astley is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Astley gets to his feet. Heartman looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Astley decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Heartman, up you get!

Astley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Heartman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Astley.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rick Astley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Astley winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
