PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vinicius Fay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kang has chosen Enter the Dragon as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Denis Kang told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Vinicius Fay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Kang!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kang clinches up with Fay and pushes him back against the cage.
Fay tries to stall but Kang uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Kang stops a takedown attempt from Fay.
Kang gets underhooks to prevent Fay's takedown attempt.

Kang jumps guard.
Kang pulls Fay in close to prevent any damage.

Kang is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kang wants to stand up but Fay is controlling him.
Fay tries to free his leg and advance position but Kang is retaining full guard.
Fay wants to control from the top but Kang keeps moving.
Fay postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Fay thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Kang kicks Fay off and gets to his feet.
Fay tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Kang finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Kang clinches up against the cage.
Kang tries to land knees in the clinch but Fay avoids the damage to the body.
Fay jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kang walks away with a smile on his face. Fay gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vinicius Fay. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kang forces Fay back against the cage and clinches.
Fay throws a knee to the head but misses.

Fay jumps into guard, dragging Kang to the mat.
Fay wants to sweep here but Kang controlling him for the moment.
Fay is looking to stand up but Kang isn't so interested in that idea.
Kang pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fay is keeping the position for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fay has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kang is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Fay.

Kang stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Fay tries to clinch but Kang moves away

and Kang counters with a nice double leg into side control. Fay won't be happy with that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fay striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Fay looking for a sweep but Kang has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Kang controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Fay has given up his back here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kang not allowing Fay to control his hands.

Fay is keeping busy.
Fay is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Kang trying to control momentarily.
Kang looks gassed!
Even with his hooks in, Kang manages to miss with strikes from the back.

Kang is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Fay has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Fay is trying to get back to his feet but Kang has full control of the position and if anything, Fay has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Fay wants to control his opponent's hands but Kang gets his hands free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fay breaks Kang's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Fay scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fay pushes down on Kang's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Fay scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Fay is looking for a kimura but Kang is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fay to get the leverage.

Kang is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Fay pulls his head out easily.
Fay looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Fay looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fay winds up and cracks Kang with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kang is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Denis Kang dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Fay fails with the takedown

and Kang counters with a takedown into side control.
Fay is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Fay's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fay is trying to buck Kang off.
Kang working away.
Kang tries to advance to mount but Fay denies him.
Fay has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kang trying to control the position but Fay is working away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kang tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kang has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fay fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fay looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fay.

A head kick misses from Fay.
Kang blocks a head kick by Fay.

Kang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Kang trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Fay manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Fay gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Fay feints and as Kang raises his hands in defense, Fay changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Denis Kang has got the better of the ground game so far.
Fay passes Kang's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kang trying to control but Fay postures up.

Kang looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Fay content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Fay is in close to Kang's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Fay is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fay trying to control but Kang is working from the bottom.
Fay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Kang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kang wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fay turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Denis Kang will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fay doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Fay takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Fay makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Fay.

Fay manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Vinicius Fay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Denis Kang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fay lands a couple of digs.

Vinicius Fay showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
